Recognition of prior learning (RPL) for UTS Business courses
UTS Business School recognises that you may have prior learning, such as previous studies at recognised tertiary institutions, and offers Recognition of Prior Learning (RPL) based on the knowledge you have obtained.
RPL is granted subject to UTS Student Rules and UTS Business School application guidelines. For more information about the application process, see how to apply for recognition of prior learning.
When to apply
Domestic applicants
Applications must be submitted at the time of receiving an offer of admission and prior to formal enrolment.
International applicants
Where possible, the application should be submitted to UTS International at the time of applying, prior to commencing your studies at UTS.
All RPL must be finalised before the end of the first session. RPL does not guarantee or imply automatic admission into UTS Business School courses.
When Recognition of Prior Learning will not be granted
- For subjects completed more than ten (10) years prior to your first session of study (the time limit for articulated arrangements may vary; see the Recognition of Prior Learning search tool for more details)
- For subjects completed at another institution with conceded passes or marks below 50
- For subjects that were exempted at another institution, other than UTS
- For subjects previously attempted and failed at UTS
- For subjects completed at another institution used for multiple applications at UTS
- For subjects used as a subject substitution in the UTS course
- For capstone subjects and other subjects that assure Course Intended Learning Outcomes (CILOs)
- In cases where an appeal is lodged against the decision and there was no new or relevant information provided
Undergraduate RPL
UTS Business School has a list of approved RPL, also known as articulated courses, for several external institutions such as TAFE and UTS College.
The Recognition of Prior Learning search tool provides details of the articulated courses and can be used as a guide to determine eligibility and approval.
These articulated courses must be completed no more than five (5) years prior to admission into UTS Business School courses.
If you have completed a qualification from a non-articulated course, your application will be assessed on a case-by-case basis. However, there is no guarantee that your application will be approved.
Postgraduate RPL
Postgraduate RPL is based on previously completed undergraduate degrees (AQF 7) and completed or partially completed postgraduate degrees (AQF 8 and 9) from UTS-recognised institutions.
