Profile

The Vice-Chancellor’s Industry Advisory Board comprises a group of senior industry leaders who advise the Vice-Chancellor and serve as a reference point to inform UTS in shaping its teaching and research agendas, ensuring that they are relevant and impactful. The board lends its energy, knowledge and influence to supporting UTS’s vision, recognising that business, government and industry are important stakeholders in the growth and continuing success of UTS.

Membership is by invitation only. Comprising up to 20 outstanding men and women – all leaders in their sector – the board represents the wide spectrum of industries integral to UTS. They are committed to ensuring that UTS realises its vision of becoming a world-leading university of technology.

Mission

Industry Advisory Board members seek to both facilitate and enable the achievement of the UTS vision, mission and objectives by leveraging their professional networks, their profile and reputation and their energy, experience and influence to:

  • serve as a source of independent advice to the Vice-Chancellor with regard to strategy and external relations
  • increase engagement with the business community (and vice versa)
  • assist in securing financial support for key strategic initiatives
  • increase the relevance of our teaching and research agendas
  • build links between UTS and its other stakeholders
  • raise the profile of, and build, the UTS brand and reputation
  • engage with students and alumni

Mode of operation

The Industry Advisory Board achieves its objectives by convening as a collective body three times a year and by breaking into such ad hoc committees and working parties as may be required from time to time.

Board members commit to an annual program of active engagement with UTS and this program would typically include one or more of the following activities:

  • Direct engagement with the UTS student body (either in the classroom or in other fora)
  • Serving on faculty advisory boards or research centre boards
  • Serving on a task force or working party to examine a specific issue
  • Recruitment of UTS graduates
  • Developing and hosting events such such as seminars or workshops
  • Hosting alumni networking and professional development events
  • Participating in fundraising and sponsorship activities

Membership

There are up to 20 members of the Industry Advisory Board including the Chair and up to 19 board members. The Vice-Chancellor appoints the Chair from the board membership.

The Chair oversees the organisation and affairs of the board and is responsible for keeping the board informed on all board matters. The Chair makes recommendations to increase the board’s usefulness to the university.

Acknowledgement of Country

UTS acknowledges the Gadigal People of the Eora Nation and the Boorooberongal People of the Dharug Nation upon whose ancestral lands our campuses now stand. We would also like to pay respect to the Elders both past and present, acknowledging them as the traditional custodians of knowledge for these lands.
