A talk for UTS Law students about Defamation Law with Professor David Rolph

What kinds of communication can be defamatory? In what circumstances is a publication considered to have caused serious harm to someone’s reputation? And, on what grounds can a defamation action be defended?

This Justice Talk provides an introduction to defamation law in Australia. It examines its sources of law, as well as the principles of liability, defences and remedies. It also considers defamation law in practice, in particular the impact of defamation law on investigative journalism and the ‘chilling effect’ of defamation law on free speech.

This Justice Talk will be held online, via Zoom.
