Like all other Australian universities, in 2023 we have returned to more face-to-face classes, social activities and student services. From Spring session, most subject activities at UTS will run in-person and on campus.
Studying online or distance mode subjects
In accordance with government requirements, Australian universities will need to return to compliance from 1 July 2023. This means that students will need to be back on campus for the start of Spring 2023 session. Therefore, from 1 July 2023, in accordance with Standard 8.19 and 8.20 of the National Code:
- An international student on a student visa cannot study more than one-third of the total enrolment load by online or distance learning.
- An international student on a student visa cannot study entirely by online or distance learning in Autumn or Spring session at UTS. This means that each student must study at least one ‘face-to-face’ subject during the UTS Autumn and Spring sessions unless the student is completing the last unit of their course.

Please note that the Chinese government announced on 28 January 2023 that it will not accredit any online studies undertaken by Chinese students at foreign universities in or after the first session for the Southern Hemisphere (UTS Autumn session 2023). This means that all students from China will need to study on campus from Autumn session 2023 or their qualification/degree may not be accredited by the Chinese Government. Visit our FAQs page.
