UTS is embarking on a ground-breaking proposal to build Australia's first truly comprehensive National First Nations College.

Developed and led by the Indigenous leadership team at UTS and the Indigenous community, the college aims to remove the barriers, both real and perceived, that prevent Indigenous participation in higher education and the broader economy. The college will aim to do this by raising aspiration, maximising opportunities for entry to higher education and supporting the pursuit of quality employment, careers and contribution to society.

This is a strengths-based and excellence initiative, informed by evidence and enriched by wide consultation with Indigenous leaders nation-wide, as well as UTS Indigenous students, staff, and alumni. The college will be diverse and fully inclusive of all peoples, providing accommodation for both Indigenous and non-Indigenous students (with an Indigenous majority) – as we work to promote and model a unified nation.

The purpose-built, world-class facility – which will offer a comprehensive range of services above and beyond accommodation – will be defined by its ethos of pride in Indigenous identity and culture, and its commitment to fostering academic excellence, leadership and service, and global citizenship.

The college will provide a home away from home for Indigenous and non-Indigenous students alike to live, learn and grow within an inclusive community at UTS. At its heart, the college will celebrate the immeasurable value of lndigenous identity and history, while also building community capacity and knowledge by developing and nurturing the leaders of the future.

Its impact will be multi-generational, with its thousands of graduates over the coming decades entering leadership roles with a shared commitment to a more inclusive nation.

From the architectural and interior design to the programs, living and communal areas and beyond, all will be led and informed by Indigenous perspectives and cultures.
