Student Services Unit Resource Room (SSURR) & Library Assistive Technology Rooms (LATR)

The SSURR and LATR spaces are for use by students registered with the Accessibility service. Please contact your Accessibility Consultant or Accessibility@uts.edu.au to request access. They provide an accessible study environment including access equipment and assistive technology. The SSURR is a quiet space and set up for taking a rest.

The Student Services Unit Resource Room (SSURR) is available 7 days a week, 24 hours a day except between 24 December and 2 January and any other periods during which the Building is closed by the University. The SSURR is accessed using your Student ID card.

The UTS Library Assistive Technology Rooms (LATR) are available when the library is open, check the opening hours. For more information visit the general access assistance page.

Assistive Technology Site Licenses

UTS has site licenses available for student use for:

Read and Write

Version 12 is a floating toolbar with tools to help with reading, writing and research skills. It has helpful functions for writers, including predictive spelling, word choice, dictionary, and thesaurus features. The program also includes voice dictation that reads aloud what students write and helps them identify errors and much more. For more information and functions explanations visit the Yale Centre for Dyslexia and Creativity.

Where is it located?

JAWS (Job Access With Speech)

Version 18 is for computer users whose vision loss prevents them from seeing screen content or navigating with a mouse. JAWS provides speech and Braille output. View testimonials from JAWS users.

How can it be accessed? Where is it located?
Jaws is available on campus in all general access IT Labs and the Student Services Unit Resource Room (SSURR) and Library Assistive Technology rooms (LATR). Ask IT if you need Jaws installed in any Faculty labs / locations.

NVDA

NVDA  is available on campus in all general access IT Labs and the Student Services Unit Resource Room (SSURR) and Library Assistive Technology rooms (LATR). Ask IT if you need NVDA installed in any Faculty labs / locations.

Zoomtext

Zoomtext is a magnification and screen reading software for people who have vision loss.
