Welcome to the School of Economics and Marketing at UTS

The School of Economics and Marketing is driven by a shared purpose to understand how markets, decisions, and people shape our communities.

Economics at UTS approaches this through rigorous quantitative and theoretical methods, producing internationally recognised research in microeconomic theory, applied microeconomics, applied econometrics, and behavioural and experimental economics to advance our understanding of markets, institutions, and policy.

Marketing extends this by combining creativity, technology, and a focus on sustainable social change to uncover what people and markets need, helping organisations respond effectively. Ranked among the leading disciplines in Australia, our academics publish in top international journals and collaborate closely with industry, government, and policymakers to ensure their work addresses contemporary economic and social challenges.

Together, we generate knowledge that matters, informing policy, advancing practice, and contributing to a more equitable world.

School disciplines

The School of Economics and Marketing contains 2 disciplines. See below for information on each discipline.

Economics Discipline

The mission of the economics discipline at UTS is to contribute to social welfare through research, teaching, and external engagement.

‘Social Welfare’ refers to the wellbeing of all members of society, and it is enhanced by improving economic efficiency, promoting equity and, in the long-run, through sustainable development.

To achieve this mission, the economics discipline embraces the diversity of perspectives, fields of research, and backgrounds of both staff and students.

Does it pay to study Economics? “Economists have hourly earnings that put them in the top 3 per cent of earnings by occupation” according to the Reserve Bank of Australia.

Marketing Discipline

The Marketing Discipline at UTS Business School is a leading discipline dedicated to advancing marketing knowledge and practice through innovative teaching and world-class research. With a strong emphasis on creativity, technology and sustainability, the discipline equips students with the skills to drive effective marketing strategy and decision-making in a rapidly evolving landscape.

Its research is internationally recognised - ranked well above world standard - and closely connected to industry, ensuring real-world impact and relevance, from emerging areas such as AI through to contemporary consumer and market insights.
