Women in Engineering and IT provides a diverse, safe and inclusive community so that study and careers in Engineering and IT are not limited by gender. See what our staff and students say about being part of it!

My name is Arti Agrawal and I'm the

00:05

Director for women in engineering and IT at

00:08

the University of Technology Sydney I'm

00:10

also an associate professor in the

00:12

school of data and electrical

00:13

Engineering.  Women in engineering and IT is

00:16

the longest-running unit of its kind in

00:18

Australia and our vision is to create

00:21

and lead social change so that education

00:24

and career journeys in engineering and

00:27

IT are not limited by gender and here

00:30

I'd like to share with you some of the

00:31

answers we got from people from our

00:33

community about what it means to them.

The Women in Engineering and IT community provides an opportunity to flourish.

00:41

A united community filled with love

00:45

to help others. Women in engineering and

00:48

IT in one word would be empowering. It’s

00:51

an ambitious and enthusiastic community

00:53

which focuses on wellbeing as well as the

00:56

empowerment of women. It’s so passionate,

01:00

everyone working here is so passionate

01:02

about empowering women and taking them

01:04

to the next level. I’ve been attending let's talk

01:08

Sessions, the weekly coffee hours, the occasional

01:10

lunch and cultural

01:12

celebration events, lots of skill

01:15

development workshops. What I've done in the

01:18

program that I’m currently actively

01:20

involved in women in engineering and IT at

01:22

UTS is called the Ambassador Program

01:26

I have had numerous opportunities to

01:29

attend seminars presentations workshops

01:31

etc

01:32

I could also participate in volunteering

01:35

Activities. The coffees hours, festival

01:38

celebrations from different cultures,

01:40

Lucy mentoring.

01:42

I made new connections and lifelong

01:45

Friends. I’ve improved my academic and social

01:49

skills due to the meetings and

01:52

workshops I've been attending for the

01:54

past year. When I first came to Australia I

01:58

didn't know anyone and women in

02:00

engineering and IT made me feel included

02:02

I've got so many opportunities to

02:05

explore myself. It helps me to develop a

02:08

strong and professional network and

02:11

connectivity with other people. Being a

02:14

part of this community I’ve learned not to

02:17

limit myself. Many people limit

02:19

themselves to what they think they can do

02:22

But we can go as far as our mind can go

02:25

when we are determined. Namaste.

02:28

I am able to connect women in tech

02:31

like engineer data scientists that share

02:34

the same value and put diversity at

02:36

their job right. It’s helped me to have a

02:40

Voice, to say what I need to say and do

02:43

what needs to be done to help others

02:45

Do that. Being part of women in engineering and

02:48

IT has made me much more

02:50

Confident, made me meet like-minded

02:53

people and helped me develop skills

02:55

through various workshops that

02:58

keeps on happening around the year.

03:27

females around here.

Our community includes hundreds of students, staff and professionals engaged through regular coffee hours and cultural celebrations in our dedicated space in the UTS Engineering and IT building and online.

When I first came to Australia, I didn't know anyone and Women in Engineering and IT made me feel included. I've had so many opportunities to explore my strengths and the community helps me to develop a strong professional network.
