PILab hosts KTP Visiting Fellow A/Prof Thi Nhat Thanh Nguyen
The School of Electrical and Data Engineering's Perceptual Imaging Lab hosts Associate Professor Thi Nhat Thanh Nguyen; an expert in the areas of remote sensing, air pollution modelling.
From the 6 to 23 of August 2019, the School of Electrical and Data Engineering’s PILab (Perceptual Imaging Lab) was honoured to host the visit of Associate Professor Thi Nhat Thanh Nguyen from Vietnam National University Hanoi to UTS. A/Prof Thanh is an expert in the areas of remote sensing, air pollution modelling, IoT for air pollution measurement, land cover and land use change, object monitoring from satellite, images, 3D GIS, and machine learning. She is a key member of the Center for Field Monitoring (FIMO) at the VNU University of Engineering and Technology. A/Prof Thanh is working with PILab on object detection in satellite imagery and the visualisation in 3D and virtual reality environments of environmental and pollution data in urban landscapes. A/Prof Thanh and PILab are interested in how best to visualise complex environmental data that may vary in time and height above the ground against 3D scans of the urban environment collected by A/Prof Thanh’s group using satellite and drone imagery. Finding optimal ways to visualise this type of data can help with education, urban planning and environmental research.
Whilst at UTS, A/Prof Thanh met with the Faculty of Engineering and IT researchers, Animal Logic Academy staff as well as academics and staff from the International Office, Centre for Food Agility, Faculty of Science, Research Office and a number of commercial and government organisations to discuss potential project ideas and ways to conduct collaborative research of benefit to both Vietnam and Australia. A/Prof Thanh’s visit was funded by the Faculty KTP (Engineering and IT) Visiting Fellow Program and A/Prof Thanh works with the Faculty as part of the UTS-VNU Joint Technology and Innovation Research Centre.
