UTS student is NSW Visual Communication Graduate of the Year
Congratulations to UTS School of Design honours graduate Emily Savage, who was named the NSW Visual Communication Graduate of the Year at the Design Institute of Australia (DIA) awards last night. As an indication of the calibre of UTS visual communication graduates, four of the total of five NSW finalists were UTS students: Charlie Yuncken, Jennifer Wen, Julia Favaloro, and Emily.
As the DIA website notes, the Graduate of the Year Awards (Gotya) is the Institute's flagship program for emerging designers, and has been created to support and celebrate exceptional Australian designers as they embark on their careers.
Emily was selected as the NSW Visual Communication winner after a process including an evaluation of her portfolio and an interview with a panel of experts to determine transferable workplace skills and predicted impact on the Australian design industry. A small selection of Emily's work from the 2021 UTS Visual Communication showcase can be seen below.
Emily's win continues a strong showing for the UTS visual communication program at the DIA awards – last year, UTS graduate Madison Chan was the NSW and joint-national winner in the visual communication design category.
The 2022 national winners, selected from the individual state awards, will be announced next week.
