• Adjunct Associate Professor

  Josh Bornstein

  Josh Bornstein is an award-winning lawyer who was National Practice Leader of Maurice Blackburn’s Employment and Industrial Relations Group for 29 years. He was recently appointed as Director of Corporate Regulation at The Australia Institute.  He is the author of ‘Working for the Brand: how corporations are destroying free speech’, Scribe (2024) and was a contributing author for ‘The Wages Crisis in Australia ‘ (2018) edited by Andrew Stewart, Tess Hardy and Jim Stanford. His writing has also appeared in the Journal of Industrial Relations,  The Monthly, The Saturday Paper, the Australian Financial Review and The Guardian.  Josh is also a director of the Australian Society of Authors as well as a member of the Victorian Racing Tribunal.

  Katrin Klodt-Bußmann

   Prof. Dr. Katrin Klodt-Bußmann is a distinguished international business law professor and legal practitioner with extensive experience bridging academia and corporate practice. Since 2012, she has held a professorship in International Business Law and serves as Dean at Hochschule Konstanz Technik, Wirtschaft und Gestaltung (HTWG), where she focuses on teaching International Business Law, Contract Drafting & Negotiation, Mergers & Acquisitions, WTO Law, and Alternative Dispute Resolution in international commercial settings.

  Her legal career spans both top-tier law firms and multinational corporations. Early roles included corporate law practice in M&A at Clifford Chance, and she later served as Head of Legal, Insurance & M&A for a leading German industrial group, managing large-scale international projects and corporate transactions. She also held senior advisory positions in automotive, rail vehicle, and machinery industries.

  As a recognised thought leader, Prof. Klodt-Bußmann has demonstrated expertise in contract management, product liability, compliance, distributorship and aftermarket law, international arbitration, and cross-border negotiations. She has been a member of the German Institution of Arbitration since 2014 and, since 2020, serves as Of Counsel at Adolf|Lantschner Partnerschaftsgesellschaft mbB, Rechtsanwälte. Her commitment to shaping future legal professionals includes guest lecturing on WTO Law at the University of Technology Sydney and leading a well-regarded International and Comparative Law program connecting UAS Konstanz and global students.

  Beyond professional practice, she has participated in strategic advisory boards, notably for litigation financing, and actively contributes to professional and academic networks, including the International Bar Association (IBA). In 2024, she assumed the role of Chief Executive Officer at the IHK Hochrhein-Bodensee, bringing a rare combination of legal, academic, and executive experience to regional and international business development.

  Prof. Klodt-Bußmann is recognised for her forward-thinking approach to digital transformation in law education, integrating practical business law experience with modern digital techniques. She is dedicated to mentoring students and fostering interdisciplinary skills that prepare them to navigate complex legal challenges in a globalised, digitalised business environment.

  Dr Trish Luker

  Trish is a legal scholar, with expertise in socio-legal, feminist and critical theory. Her innovative, interdisciplinary research is concerned with how, and on what basis, legal decisions are made. It focuses on two areas: analysis of legal decision-making and court processes; and evidentiary assessment, including theories of the documentary form in law. Her work engages with cross-disciplinary methods and sources, examining the impacts of legal practices upon women, Indigenous peoples, refugees, and others whose experiences are erased or overlooked by dominant legal doctrines and processes.

  Trish has led multiple innovative, internationally-significant, externally-funded research projects that have spearheaded scholarly movements and shaped policy and practice in scholarship, legal, court and judicial practice. Together with Heather Douglas, Francesca Bartlett and Rosemary Hunter, she is a leader of the Australian Feminist Judgments Project, which investigates feminist approaches to judicial decision making. This project resulted in the collection, Australian Feminist Judgments: Righting and Rewriting Law (Hart Publishing, 2014). In the Court as Archive project, she collaborated with Ann Genovese and Kim Rubenstein to make important contributions to understanding the archival responsibilities of courts, resulting in the collection, The Court as Archive (ANU Press, 2019). With Katherine Biber and Priya Vaughan, she conducted the project called What is a Document? Evidentiary Challenges in the Digital Age, investigating the challenges to evidence law brought about by the shift to the digital age. This project resulted in the publication, Law’s Documents: Authority, Materiality, Aesthetics (Routledge, 2022). Most recently, she has been working with Panu Minkkinen, Tormod Johansen and Matilda Arviddson on the Cultural Techniques of Law project, which investigates the use of German media theory, including the work of Cornelia Vismann, in law. An edited collection is due to be published by Edinburgh University Press in 2027.

  Bronwyn Olliffe

  Bronwyn Olliffe commenced her appointment as an Adjunct Associate Professor in January 2021, having served across a range of roles in education in the University and the Faculty. As a law academic, she is highly regarded as an exemplary legal educator with extensive professional and academic experience in private practice and in the scholarship of teaching.

  Bronwyn joined UTS in 1996 and took a lead role in the establishment of the ground-breaking Practical Legal Training Program (PLT), which continues as a distinctive and highly-regarded strength of the Law Faculty. At the time of its establishment, the PLT program was a unique innovation in legal education and has contributed significantly to the practical and career ready focus of UTS law graduates. Bronwyn was Director of the PLT Program from 1999 to 2001 and 2003 to 2006. She returned to this role as Director of Professional Education, which included the PLT program, from 2016 to 2020.

  Bronwyn’s significant contribution to the Law Faculty was in her role as Associate Dean (Teaching and Learning) from 2007 to 2015. In this role, she was responsible for implementing innovative and effective teaching and learning initiatives, including the introduction of the JD program, the embedding of graduate attributes in all law courses and the establishment of an internship program.

  In 2011, Bronwyn, together with the (then) Dean, Professor Jill McKeough and the inaugural Sir Gerard Brennan Professor, Paul Redmond, established the Brennan Justice and Leadership Program. This was also a ground-breaking initiative which provides UTS law students with opportunities to strengthen their sense of social justice, and to develop the idea of service in professional contexts. The program continues to flourish today.

  At the University level, Bronwyn was the University Student Ombudsman from 2003 to 2006. Her other service roles included as the Faculty Academic Liaison Officer (2006-2007) and the Faculty Director of Students (2006 to 2007).

  Bronwyn’s research interests in the changing role of universities as providers of professional training and the changing expectations and circumstances of students informed her work with Professor Sally Varnham on student engagement in university decision-making and governance. This work was funded by the (then) Office of Learning and Teaching and informed subsequent work on students as partners in their learning.

  Bronwyn is the current Chair of the UTS College Academic Board.

• Adjunct Fellow

  Dr David Brennan

  David Brennan has been a Visiting Fellow at the UTS Law Faculty since 2018. David has served as a long-standing Copyright Policy Consultant to Screenrights – The Audio-Visual Copyright Society, taught intellectual property at the tertiary level since 1996, including at the universities of Melbourne, Adelaide, Oxford and most recently at Monash, where he is teaching the post-graduate intellectual property program.

  David’s doctoral thesis was published by Kluwer Law International in 2003 under the title Retransmission and US Compliance with TRIPS and concerned whether a remunerated exception in US copyright law met a Berne-in-TRIPS minimum standard. In 2021, his treatise on Australian copyright law was published by The Federation Press under the title Copyright Law. David has served as an Editor of the Australian Intellectual Property Journal since 2007, and he is the author of over 40 published pieces of legal research, including his legal history articles ‘The Evolution of English Patent Clams as Property Definers’ in 2005 and ‘The Root of Title to Copyright in Works’ in 2015 both published in the Intellectual Property Quarterly. David is currently researching and writing a monograph titled ‘Patent Claims: Interpretation, Validity and Infringement’, which is planned for publication in 2025 by The Federation Press.

  Sarah Dale

  Sarah Elizabeth Dale is the Principal Solicitor and Director at the Refugee Advice & Casework Service (RACS), where she has dedicated over twelve years to advancing the rights of people seeking asylum in Australia. Under her leadership, RACS has become a trusted voice in refugee advocacy, providing essential legal assistance to some of the most vulnerable members of the community.

  With a deep commitment to social justice and human rights, Sarah has led numerous initiatives to improve access to fair and compassionate legal processes for refugees. Her expertise spans refugee and migration law, strategic litigation, and community engagement, and she is widely recognised for her strong advocacy and empathetic leadership.

  Angela Dwyer

  Dr Angela Dwyer commenced her appointment as an Adjunct Fellow in January 2021. Angela joined the Faculty in 2005, having previously taught at La Trobe University. Prior to her academic career, Angela practised as a barrister and solicitor in Victoria and NSW for 22 years. Angela taught principally in the areas of International Environmental Law and Contracts. Angela continues to contribute to the Faculty's Bachelor of Laws and Juris Doctor programs, particularly through teaching and assessing in Contract Law. Angela is currently the Chair of the university Student Misconduct Appeals Committee.

  Angela made a significant contribution to UTS in her role as Student Ombud from 2016 to 2018 and as Assistant Student Ombud from 2013 to 2015, along with membership of the University Conduct Committee and Appeals Committee from 2013 to 2020.

  Angela also served the Faculty of Law as the Director of Courses from 2018 to 2019 and as Director of Students from 2010 to 2012. In this role, Angela established the Faculty's student mentoring programs.

  Angela's research and engagement is in the area of environmental law. Her doctoral dissertation examined the use of the Precautionary Principle in the listing of species and Key Threatening Processes under the Environment Protection and Biodiversity Conservation Act 1999 (Cth). For several years, Angela has been a Board member of Fauna and Flora International Australia and volunteered with International Animal Rescue in Borneo. 

  David Lindsay

  David Lindsay is an Adjunct Fellow in the Faculty of Law at UTS. He is a retired Professor of Law and a leading scholar in intellectual property law, with particular expertise in copyright, digital technologies and the regulation of creative and informational works in online environments.

  David’s research and teaching have focused on the legal challenges arising from technological change, including copyright in the digital economy, access to knowledge, user rights, and the balance between private ownership and the public interest. He has published extensively in leading Australian and international journals, and is the author of International Domain Name Law and Copyright in the Digital Age. His scholarship is widely regarded for its clarity, rigour and impact on policy and legal debate.

  During his academic career at UTS, David made a substantial contribution to teaching, curriculum development and research supervision across intellectual property and commercial law. He also played an important role in academic leadership and interdisciplinary engagement, supporting collaboration between universities, government and industry

  As an Adjunct Fellow, David continues to be associated with UTS Law through research, mentoring and scholarly engagement. His work reflects a long‑standing commitment to intellectually rigorous, socially informed legal scholarship and to understanding the regulatory implications of emerging technologies.

  Robyn Pettit

  Robyn Pettit commenced her appointment as an Adjunct Fellow in March 2021. Robyn joined the Law Faculty in 1996. She holds a Bachelor of Arts Bachelor of Laws from Macquarie University, a Graduate Certificate in Higher Education from UTS and a Master of Laws from the University of Sydney.

  Robyn was a founding clinical practitioner in the Practical Legal Training program at UTS. At the time of its establishment, the PLT program was a unique innovation in legal education and has contributed significantly to the practical and career ready focus of UTS law graduates. Robyn’s practice as both a legal aid lawyer and a private practitioner enabled her to develop cutting-edge programs in criminal law and advocacy. Drawing on her strong and broad connections with the profession, Robyn introduced legal practitioners and magistrates as judges in court assessments.

  Robyn taught principally in the areas of Advocacy, Criminal Law, Evidence and Ethics, Law and Justice. Her teaching was informed by her work as a lawyer and her expertise in curriculum and practice-based assessment. Robyn was a key contributor to service and engagement, particularly as a judge in the UTS Law Students Society competitions and in the Brennan Justice and Leadership Program, a co-curricular initiative designed to enable students to grow their understanding and skills in public service and in community-based leadership.

  Robyn has continued her advocacy and volunteer work in social justice across a wide range of areas. Her strong connection to the Law Faculty continues with her pro bono role as volunteer coordinator at Anti-Slavery Australia.

  Pam Stewart

  Pam Stewart commenced her appointment as an Adjunct Fellow in December 2020, after many years’ service in the Law Faculty at UTS as a senior lecturer. Prior to joining UTS in 1996, Pam was a solicitor in private practice.

  Pam’s expertise is in Tort Law where she continues to make a significant contribution through her scholarship. Her book, Australian Principles of Tort Law (with Professor Anita Stuhmcke), was the first response to the major tort law reforms that were introduced in all Australian jurisdictions in 2002 and is now in its 5th edition. The focus of much of Pam's continuing research in Tort Law has been on the way in which the law provides remedies for various classes of vulnerable plaintiff including adolescents and young people, victims of human trafficking and slavery and victims of institutional child abuse. Pam’s commitment to legal redress for vulnerable persons continues with her role as a member of the Management Committee of Anti-Slavery Australia.

  Pam completed a study (with Prof. Anita Stuhmcke) of negligence cases in the High Court of Australia over a 10 year period, which was published in 2014 in the Melbourne University Law Review and the Sydney Law Review. Pam and Anita have completed further empirical research concerning special leave applications to the High Court of Australia, with results published in the Sydney Law Review and the Federal Law Review in 2019 and 2020. Currency and relevance have always been integral to Pam’s teaching practice and her professional experience and research, captured in her writing, provides a practical perspective recognised and valued by students.

• Adjunct Professor

  Professor Rosalind Croucher AM

  Professor Rosalind Croucher AM is a distinguished Australian lawyer, academic, and leader in law reform and human rights. She served as President of the Australian Human Rights Commission from 2017 to 2024, following eight years as President of the Australian Law Reform Commission. Before leading these national institutions, Professor Croucher enjoyed a 25-year academic career, including her tenure as Dean of the Macquarie University Law School. Her teaching and research have focused on equity, trusts, property, inheritance law, and legal history, and she continues to be recognised for her contributions to legal education and public policy. Professor Croucher is a Member of the Order of Australia for her significant service to law, legal reform, education, and the arts. She has also been recognised among Australia’s 100 Women of Influence and has received awards for her outstanding leadership and mentorship of women in the legal profession.

  Kate Eastman

  Kate Eastman AM SC is a leading Australian human rights and employment law barrister with more than 30 years of experience in legal practice, advocacy and law reform.

  Appointed Senior Counsel in 2012, Kate is widely recognised for her expertise in human rights, discrimination, employment and public law. She has appeared in significant cases and inquiries throughout Australia and has made substantial contributions to advancing equality, access to justice and the protection of human rights.

  Kate has a long association with the University of Technology Sydney, where she completed a Master of Laws and later taught within the Faculty of Law. She currently serves as an Adjunct Professor and was awarded an Honorary Doctor of Laws by UTS in recognition of her outstanding contribution to the legal profession and the community.

  In 2021, Kate was appointed a Member of the Order of Australia (AM) for significant service to the law, human rights and professional organisations.

  Jeff Fitzgerald

  Jeff FitzGerald obtained an Honours degree in Law from Melbourne University in 1965, and served as Associate to Douglas Menzies J for 18 months. He then obtained an LL.M and a PhD in the Sociology of Law from Northwestern University in the USA.

  Between 1972 and 1983 he taught Sociology and Legal Studies at La Trobe University, including a courses on Administrative Law and its efficacy, the Sociology of Law, and Prisons and Society. His main areas of research focused upon the legal profession and the poor, and grievance and dispute behaviour and resolution. He served 3 years as Dean of the School of Social Sciences.

  From 1983 to 1995 he provided policy advice in the Victorian Premier’s Department, and was Deputy Secretary in the Victorian Attorney-General’s Department. Thereafter he spent 10 years as Registrar at the University of Technology Sydney. Following his retirement at the end of 2006, he has acted as a consultant in the area of Higher Education governance, and has served as Chairman of the Board of Directors of the AustLII Foundation.

  He has recently written a biography of Brennan C.J. which aims to do justice to Brennan the man, as well as Brennan the judge, explore the relationship between the two, and provide readers with a deeper understanding of how the judges of the Australian High Court engage jurisprudentially over time to administer justice according to law in a complex and evolving society.

  Rosemary Hunter KC (Hon), FAcSS

  Professor Hunter is Professor of Socio-Legal Studies and Head of the Law School at the University of Kent.

  Together with Professor Clare McGlynn and Dr Erika Rackley, she was one of the co-organisers of the Feminist Judgments Project in England and Wales, and she has subsequently co-organised, supported and advised similar projects in Australia, New Zealand, the USA, Northern/Ireland, India, Scotland, Pakistan, Vietnam, Brazil, Central and Eastern Europe and in International Law, as well as a related project focusing on children’s rights.

  In 2019 she was appointed by the UK Ministry of Justice to an expert panel examining how family courts protect children and adult victims of domestic abuse in child arrangement proceedings. She was the lead author of the panel’s report, Assessing Risk of Harm to Children and Parents in Private Law Children Cases (Ministry of Justice, 2020) which resulted in amendments to the then Domestic Abuse Bill and an ongoing program of significant reforms to the family justice system.

  She was a founding editor in 2011 of feminists@law, an online open access journal of feminist legal scholarship, and continues to edit the journal with a group of Kent Law School colleagues. She is also a general editor of two book series: the Onati International Series in Law and Society (with David Nelken), published by Hart/Bloomsbury, and the Edward Elgar Research Handbooks in Law in Society (with Austin Sarat).

  She is a former Chair of the UK Socio-Legal Studies Association and former member of the Governing Board of the Onati International Institute for Law and Society. In 2012 she was made a Fellow of the UK Academy of Social Sciences and in 2022 she was appointed KC (honoris causa) in recognition of her significant contributions to law outside the courtroom.

  Judith Fudge

  Judith Fudge is a distinguished legal scholar whose research has shaped international understanding of labour law, employment regulation and workers’ rights. Her work focuses on labour and employment law, migration, gender and the changing nature of work, with a particular emphasis on equality, human rights and social justice.

  Throughout her academic career, Judith has held senior positions at leading universities in Canada and the United Kingdom, including Osgoode Hall Law School, the University of Victoria, the University of Kent and McMaster University. She is widely recognised for her influential scholarship and extensive contributions to labour law and socio-legal research.

  A Fellow of the Royal Society of Canada, Judith has received numerous honours for her work, including the Bora Laskin Award for her outstanding contribution to labour law scholarship. Her research has informed legal, policy and academic debates internationally and has had a lasting impact on the study of work, employment and labour rights.

  Through her scholarship, teaching and public engagement, Judith has made an exceptional contribution to advancing understanding of labour rights, workplace equality and social justice.

  Diane Kirkby

  Diane Kirkby FAHA FASSA is an internationally recognised scholar of legal, feminist, labour and social history. She was formerly Professor of Law and Humanities at the University of Technology Sydney and continues to maintain a distinguished record of research, leadership and public engagement. Diane is an elected Fellow of both the Australian Academy of the Humanities and the Academy of Social Sciences in Australia, and in 2015 was elected a Fellow of the American Society for Legal History.

  Diane’s scholarship is widely regarded for its originality, empirical depth and interdisciplinary reach. Across major monographs, edited collections and articles in leading journals, her work has reshaped understandings of labour, gender and law, bringing legal history into sustained conversation with social and cultural history. Her research has offered new insights into working people’s experiences, including questions of economic autonomy, citizenship and labour rights. Her most recent book, Maritime Men of the Asia‑Pacific, examines the significance of labour legislation and international conventions in maritime workers’ struggles.

  A Fulbright Alumnus, Diane has served multiple terms on the Victorian Fulbright Selection Committee and led Australian Research Council–funded research on the Fulbright Program, resulting in Academic Ambassadors, Pacific Allies (2019). She has also received ARC funding for research on women workers in maritime and transport industries and was awarded the WK Hancock Prize for Alice Henry: The Power of Pen and Voice.

  Deeply committed to public scholarship, Diane regularly contributes to media, public lectures and cultural institutions. Her work is driven by a long‑standing aim to deepen understanding of working people’s lives and to empower audiences through knowledge of their history.

  Dr Mitchell Landrigan

  Dr Mitchell Landrigan commenced his current appointment as an Adjunct Professor in March 2021. Mitchell’s career as a commercial lawyer and as an accredited mediator brings professional expertise to the Faculty and, coupled with Mitchell’s research interests, is aligned with the Faculty’s focus on practice-based and real world education.

  Mitchell's research interests include public law, constitutional law, law and religion, competition law, and law & technology. His research expertise has led to several significant affiliations and memberships. Mitchell serves as a member of the Public Law Committee of the Law Society of NSW. He is also a member of the Australian Association of Constitutional Law, the International Society of Public Law and the Institute of Patent and Trade Mark Attorneys. Mitchell is a Research Affiliate, Research Unit for the Study of Society, Law and Religion (RUSSLR) at the University of Adelaide. 

  At the University level, Mitchell is a member of the Human Research Ethics Committee (HREC). At the Faculty level, his expertise in advocacy and negotiation enable him to contribute to the Faculty’s mooting program.

  The Hon. Robert McDougall KC

  The Hon. Robert McDougall KC is a highly respected commercial law practitioner, former Supreme Court judge, and experienced arbitrator. He was appointed to the Supreme Court of New South Wales in 2003, where he served for more than 15 years, principally in the Commercial, Technology and Construction, and Arbitration Lists. Since retiring from the bench in 2019, he has returned to private practice as an arbitrator, referee, expert determiner, and mediator in complex commercial and construction disputes. Earlier in his career, he practised at the Bar from 1975 and was appointed Queen’s Counsel in 1990. He is currently an Adjunct Professor at the University of Technology Sydney Faculty of Law, contributing his extensive expertise in equity, commercial law, and dispute resolution.

  Nicole (Nicky) McWilliam

  Nicky McWilliam has a background in law, mediation and dispute resolution and her experience lies in commercial, business, workplace, construction, family and general mediation. She practised as a lawyer in private practice in Sydney at Allens and a London city law firm, working in the commercial and finance areas.

  Nicky holds a Masters of Law majoring in dispute resolution and has a PhD in law in mediation and dispute resolution. She is accredited with the National Accreditation Mediation System (NMAS) and is registered with the Commonwealth Attorney Generals Department as an accredited Family Dispute Resolution Practitioner (FDRP). She served the NSW Government on The Independent Liquor and Gaming Authority for 5 years (2016-2021) and completed a Professional Certificate in Arbitration in 2022.

  Nicky has worked as a part-time academic and is currently an adjunct professor in the Faculty of Law at the University of Technology in subject areas including introductory legal studies, introductory dispute resolution, children and the law and juvenile justice, family law and legal remedies. She is involved with government, commercial and community organisations in relation to mediation services for dispute workplace, commercial and business entities.

  Nicky is a finalist and recipient of various awards from mediation and dispute resolution organisations. These include the LEADR Award for Significant Contribution to ADR, the Australasian Law Awards and the Resolution Institute.

  Richard Potok

  Richard Potok AM is a distinguished advocate, scholar and leader in Indigenous education and legal reform in Australia. He is Founder and former Chief Executive Officer of the Aurora Education Foundation (formerly the Aurora Project), and served as Executive Director of both the Charlie Perkins Scholarship Trust and the Roberta Sykes Indigenous Education Foundation. His earlier legal career included representing Australia in key international negotiations on securities and conflict of laws, and his academic roles have included Adjunct Professor at University of Technology Sydney, Visiting Fellow at the University of New South Wales Law School and Honorary Research Fellow at Monash University. Through his work he has made enduring contributions to improving education, professional development and legal support for Indigenous Australians, and to shaping law reform in areas of global finance and corporate law.

  Kim Rubenstein

  Professor Kim Rubenstein is a distinguished Australian legal scholar, lawyer, author, and human rights advocate, renowned for her expertise in citizenship law, gender equity, and constitutional matters.

  A leading authority on Australian citizenship law, Rubenstein authored the seminal text Australian Citizenship Law and has advised the Australian Government on citizenship matters, including serving on the committee that reviewed the Australian citizenship test in 2008. Her legal expertise has been recognised in various courts, including the High Court of Australia, where she has appeared as counsel.

  Rubenstein began her academic career at the University of Melbourne before taking up a professorship at ANU, where she directed the Centre for International and Public Law and served as the inaugural Convenor of the ANU Gender Institute. In 2020, she joined the University of Canberra, continuing her commitment to legal scholarship and public policy.

  She is also a prominent public intellectual, frequently contributing to media commentary and public debate on issues relating to citizenship, gender, and constitutional reform. In 2022, she ran as an independent Senate candidate for the ACT under the banner “Kim for Canberra,” advocating for climate action, integrity in politics, gender equality, territory rights, and the Uluru Statement from the Heart.

  Professor Rubenstein has received numerous accolades for her contributions, including the 2013 Edna Ryan Award for Leadership and the 2024 Lifetime Achievement Legal Research Medal from the Council of Australian Law Deans. She is a Fellow of both the Australian Academy of Law and the Academy of Social Sciences in Australia.

  Nan Seuffert

  Nan Seuffert is a Professor of Law and Director of the Legal Intersections Research Centre (LIRC) at the University of Wollongong, as well as an Adjunct Professor at UTS. She researches and publishes interdisciplinary work in the areas of law and society and law and humanities with a critical theory perspective and a focus on gender, race and sexuality. She currently teaches Contracts in first year law, Law, Gender Sexuality as an elective, and occasionally, Capital Raising and Financial Product Regulation.

  Professor Seuffert has been successful in attracting grants from public funders such as the Australian Research Council, the Social Sciences and Humanities Research Council of Canada and the New Zealand Fund for Science Research and Technology, as well as others. Nan has been a Salaried Residential Fellow at the University of California Humanities Research Institute, a Visiting Scholar at the University of California, Berkeley Law Center for the Study of Law and Society, and an invited visitor at the University of Kent Centre for Law, Gender and Sexuality and the Malmo University Centre for Sexology and Sexuality Studies, among other universities and research centres.

As a strategic consultant to businesses across the legal ecosystem, Beth's vision and leadership about the future of where people, process and technology are moving, creates competitive value for clients by connecting strategy to successful implementation and creating a collaborative culture between lawyers and technologists. She also consults widely across the legal ecosystem on the strategic implications of Artificial Intelligence, especially in this new era of Generative AI.

  Prior to founding ESPconnect, she was Chief Legal and Technology Services Officer at Allens for 20 years, leading a large multidisciplinary team of legal and technology professionals. Responsible for the firm’s alternative service offering and digital transformation strategy, she played a key role in developing the firm's innovation agenda, driving cultural change.

  Beth played a key role in developing the Allens Neota UTS LawTech Challenge which she co-taught for many years. She is a member of the NSW Law Society AI Taskforce, the Law Council’s Federal Litigation & Dispute Resolution Legal Technology Committee, the EDRM Global Advisory Council, a Fellow of the College of Law Practice Management (COLPM) and a Graduate of the Australian Institute of Company Directors.   Marcus Bezzi

  Marcus Bezzi is a highly respected legal professional with extensive experience spanning both the public and private sectors. He currently serves as Chief Advisor to the Competition Taskforce at the Commonwealth Treasury, where he is leading a thorough review of competition policies.

  Previously, Mr Bezzi was the Executive General Manager for Enforcement and Compliance at the Australian Competition and Consumer Commission (ACCC). In this role, he was responsible for overseeing legal services, economic analysis, and international relations.

  His international experience includes a role as part-time Associate Commissioner for the Papua New Guinea Independent Consumer and Competition Commission, where he contributed to the development of regional competition policy.

  Dr Kerryn Butler is a leading applied social science researcher whose work sits at the intersection of law, public policy, health and access to justice. She is currently a Principal Researcher at the Law and Justice Foundation of New South Wales, where she leads and contributes to rigorous, policy‑relevant research aimed at improving justice outcomes for disadvantaged and marginalised communities.

  Kerryn’s research expertise includes legal needs analysis, program evaluation, service design and organisational strategy, with a strong focus on evidence‑based approaches to access to justice. Her work is widely published and regularly informs legal assistance policy, service delivery and reform initiatives in New South Wales and nationally.

  She holds a PhD in Public Health from UNSW and a Master’s degree in Social Health and Counselling, bringing an interdisciplinary perspective to legal research that integrates social science, health and justice frameworks. Kerryn also serves on the Justice Health & Forensic Mental Health Network Human Research Ethics Committee, reflecting her commitment to ethical, high‑quality research practice.

  Tim Hartin

   Tim Hartin is an experienced legal professional currently serving as the Group Company Secretary and Chief Operating Officer at Westpac Banking Corporation, one of Australia's leading banks.   Beyond his corporate responsibilities, Tim is actively involved in initiatives that integrate legal practice with academic learning.   Catherine Hinwood OBE

  Catherine Hinwood OBE is a multi-award-winning executive leader in the UK public service who drives large-scale sector, legislative, and societal transformation on social justice issues. She translates grassroots lived experience, data and evidence into pioneering change for many of societies’ most vulnerable.

  Catherine is currently the National Health Service England’s Cross Sector Delivery Director, responsible for leading cross cutting transformation programmes in areas such as domestic abuse and sexual violence, neurodiversity, sexual safety in the workplace and support for victims of child sexual abuse. This includes the introduction of Europe’s biggest employment support package on workplace sexual safety, the first cross sector work on addressing inequalities and access to support for those with ADHD and setting up multi-disciplinary ‘Child Houses’ across England to support victims of child sexual abuse. 

  Catherine was previously a senior leader in the UK’s Ministry of Justice, responsible for policy, strategy and commissioning support services for victims of crime. As workplace Gender Champion, she introduced the first public sector policies on workplace sexual harassment. During the Covid pandemic, Catherine led the UK government’s response for victims of crime, driving work to ensure vital support and funding was secured for victims of domestic abuse and sexual violence. Catherine started her career as a lawyer at the Australian Human Rights Commission 25 years ago, before moving to the UK to work as a lawyer at the Refugee Legal Centre. Her interest in making and shaping the law through policy leadership was sharpened during her time as the lawyer advising the UK’s Asylum and Immigration Tribunal. 

  The impact of Catherine’s work and leadership has been recognised in both the UK and Australia at the highest levels; she has been awarded an OBE in the 2023 King’s New Years Honours list, Global Australian of the Year for Community and Social Impact 2025, UTS Law Alumni of the Year 2023, and Ally of the Year at the Neurodiverse Business Awards 2026. Catherine has sat on and chaired Boards in areas such as housing, criminal justice, education and international development.

  Catherine was appointed an Adjunct Fellow of the Law Faculty in March 2024. She is passionate about sharing knowledge and collaboration between NSW and the UK and regularly hosts seminars on areas of mutual interest when visiting UTS, taking valuable learning back to the highest levels of UK government and public services. 

  Grant Hummel

   Grant Hummel is a Partner of HWL Ebsworth who has corporate and commercial experience, with particular expertise in capital raisings, securities law, mergers and acquisitions, advising in relation to the Corporations Act, and the ASX Listing Rules.

  Grant co-leads HWL Ebsworth’s Health Industry Group. He holds an honours degree in life sciences and his experimental thesis involved using gel electrophoresis for DNA fingerprinting and isozymes.

  The involvement of the team led by Grant Hummel in corporate matters is sought after because of its ability to understand and clearly define the key value drivers for its clients in the midst of complex transactions in an efficient, effective and timely manner.

  Grant also serves as a member of the Law Advisory Board.

  Betty Ivanoff

   Betty Ivanoff is a highly accomplished corporate lawyer and executive, with over 25 years of expertise in corporate and commercial law, corporate governance, mergers and acquisitions, and corporate affairs. She has held senior legal positions at leading ASX-listed companies, including Chief Legal Officer and Company Secretary at Crown Resorts, The Star Entertainment Group, Coca-Cola Amatil Ltd, and GrainCorp Ltd.

  Beyond her corporate achievements, Ms Ivanoff is the Board Chair of the South Eastern Sydney Local Health District, where she brings a wealth of legal and governance experience. She also co-chairs the Law Advisory Board at the University of Technology Sydney (UTS), her alma mater, and has played an active role in mentoring UTS students, guiding the next generation of legal professionals as they navigate their careers.

  Ms Ivanoff’s distinguished career has earned her widespread recognition for her legal expertise and leadership. In 2016, she was featured in the Legal 500's GC Powerlist for Australia and New Zealand, a testament to her significant contributions to the legal field. Her professional journey is marked by a deep commitment to excellence and a passion for nurturing the development of future legal leaders.

  Justin Moses

   Justin has been an active participant in the evolution of the Australian in-house legal sector since joining it as graduate lawyer in 1987. Over the ensuing decades, Justin has amassed deep experience in the leadership of legal teams and change management in areas as diverse as team culture, engagement, high-performance, efficiency, innovation, technology and wellbeing. In 2022, Justin received the Law Society of NSW’s Award for Excellence in In-House Practice.

  Justin is currently the in-House Lawyer/Legal Counsel for AIME Mentoring, an indigenous not-for-profit corporation focused on building mentoring bridges between those who enjoy privilege and those whose circumstances place them outside society’s margins.

  Justin is a true believer in the power of industry-based conversations, and is a member of ACC Australia, Justice Connect, The Governance Institute of Australia and is a Graduate Member of the AICD. He is an Adjunct Professional Fellow of UTS Faculty of Law, and a member of Faculty’s Legal Industry Advisory Board.

  Joanne Moss

   Joanne has 20 years’ experience advising clients in large scale, complex and cross-border corporate and commercial disputes. A current chair and non-executive director of ASX-listed companies, and having previously held chief legal and executive roles within a Fortune 500 brand, Joanne takes a deeply commercial and solutions based approach towards client matters.

  Joanne specialises in class actions, shareholders and directors’ disputes, breach of contract allegations, corporate control deadlocks including partnership and JV disputes, consumer and trade law including product liability claims and recalls, franchising, regulatory investigations and prosecutions, and public inquiries.

  As a result of her board experience, Joanne is a highly sought after corporate governance litigator for listed, public and large private boards, directors, officers, members, and other stakeholders relating to allegations of breach of fiduciary duty, misrepresentation, self-dealing, conflicts of interest, oppression, squeeze out, violations of the ASX rules, ASIC investigations, and shareholder derivative and other stakeholder actions.

  Previously a chief legal officer within an FMCG brand, Joanne is deeply experienced in advising clients in large scale consumer protection matters (including class actions, product liability and recalls, ACCC investigations and prosecutions, and public inquiries) particularly in the franchising, retail, trade, healthcare, technology, energy and agricultural industries.

  Joanne has been recognised for two Australian Corporate Lawyer of the Year Awards and a Women in Law Award, and was a Judge for the ACC Corporate Lawyer Awards. She is an alumna of the Association of Corporate Counsel’s General Counsel 100 (GC of the ASX100 or by invitation) and Global Leaders in Law.

  Rob Nicholls

  Dr Rob Nicholls is a professional fellow at UTS Sydney Law. His research work focuses on the intersection of technology and regulation. He also advises senior executives of regulators, governments, and the regulated sector both in Australia and overseas.

  In academia, Rob has won and managed grants from the ARC as well as from industry partners. He has appeared as an expert witness in Federal Court proceedings. Rob has made numerous submissions to government inquiries and regularly provides media commentary.

  Rob has had a forty-year career concentrating on competition, regulation, and governance. His first degree was in electronics and communications engineering from the University of Birmingham, and he was awarded his PhD and MA by UNSW Sydney. Before moving to academia, he worked for Webb Henderson, the ACCC and spent twelve years as a client-facing consultant at Gilbert + Tobin, including as a partner. From 2012 to 2020, Rob was Australia’s Independent Telecommunications Adjudicator. He is an accredited mediator.

  Nicholas Stewart

   Nicholas is a senior partner at Dowson Turco Lawyers, an LGBTQ+ law firm based in Macquarie Street, Sydney. 

  Nicholas is the Vice President Australian Lawyers for Human Rights (ALHR) and has been an executive of ALHR for many years. Nicholas is also a graduate of the International Bar Association’s Business and Human Rights Program (2018), a member of the Diversity and Inclusion Committee at the Law Society of New South Wales (since 2020) where he is chair of the Women’s Advancement Subcommittee, and a casual lecturer and trainer with the Diplomacy Training Program (DTP) (since 2022), where he has taught DTP international masters students about international human rights law. At DTP, Nicholas has also trained participants of the NSW Service for the Treatment and Rehabilitation of Torture and Trauma Survivors (STARTTS), in the international human rights system and access to justice through human rights agencies.

  Nicholas holds a Bachelor of Commerce and a Bachelor of Laws. He graduated with his law degree at UTS in 2009. In that same year he was awarded the Elizabeth Hastings Memorial Human Rights Award and the UTS:LAW Alumni Association Award. In 2018 Nicholas was again awarded the UTS Alumni Award for community contribution. Since 2019, Nicholas has been a Friend of Distinction at UTS.

  In 2022 Nicholas was awarded the prestigious Law Society of NSW’s President’s Medal and in 2023 he was jointly awarded the ACON NSW President’s Award for his advocacy and tireless work for victims of LGBTQ hate crimes.

  Stephanie Wee

   Stephanie Wee is a legal professional with experience across professional practice, advisory work and stakeholder engagement. She brings a practical, considered perspective to legal problem‑solving, with a focus on professionalism, ethical practice and effective communication.

  Stephanie has worked across sectors where she has advised on a range of legal and regulatory matters. Her approach is informed by a strong understanding of client needs, organisational context and the importance of clear, solutions‑focused legal advice. She is particularly respected for her ability to engage constructively with diverse stakeholders and navigate complex legal issues with care and precision.

  Alongside her professional practice, Stephanie has a strong interest in education and mentoring. She is committed to supporting the development of future legal professionals by sharing practical insight into legal careers, workplace expectations and professional responsibility. Her engagement reflects a belief in accessible, practice‑informed legal learning that connects theory with real‑world application.

  Michael Whitbread

   Michael Whitbread was admitted as a solicitor in New South Wales in 2011 and was called to the Bar in 2019.

  Prior to commencing at the Bar, Michael worked at Jones Day in its Labour and Employment team (2014 to 2019) and Allens Linklaters in its Commercial Litigation team (2011 to 2014). While at Jones Day Michael acted as in-house Country Counsel, Australia for Boeing (2016 to 2017).

  Michael is a Professional Fellow of the University of Technology Sydney Faculty of Law where he coordinates and teaches a course in Industrial & Labour Law.

  Michael accepts briefs in all areas and has particular expertise in employment law, industrial relations, discrimination and work health and safety matters. He also has experience in sports law matters having acted as a clerk of the Oceania Registry of the Court of Arbitration for Sport.

  Dominic Wollrych

   Dominic Wollrych is CEO of Lawpath, Australia’s largest and fastest growing online legal platform, recognised as one of the top 10 legal start-ups in Australia and top 50 in the world. Lawpath has enabled legal practitioners to participate in the gig economy and helped over 130,000 Australian businesses access legal services at a fraction of the time, cost and complexity of the traditional system.

  Dominic’s prior roles include Corporate Lawyer at MinterEllison Lawyers and Criminal Solicitor at the Public Interest Advocacy Centre. Dominic also founded OnDemand Training Group, training workers across well-known rideshare platforms in over 15 cities. He is a founding member of the Australian Legal Tech Association, and an Adjunct Professor at UTS Law School. Dominic has a Juris Doctor (2012) and a Bachelor of Business (2009) from UTS.
