The challenge: Moving beyond blind trust
AI is entering healthcare faster than the system can adapt. As patients increasingly arrive with AI-generated first opinions, blind trust in these tools is becoming a real risk.
The UTS Health AI Research Node is a new initiative with three initial projects, led by Dr Joshua Pate, Dr Matt Davidson and Dr Julia Dray. We are calling on clinicians, policymakers, and the public to stay curious, test boldly, and demand evidence before adopting new tools.
Our mission: Clinical "red teaming"
Rather than only championing or condemning health AI, our goal is to rigorously test it. We challenge the latest models to see how they handle complex, nuanced patient needs.
We are 38 leading academics working to:
Verify tools: Ensure AI supports clinical judgment rather than undermining it.
- Protect standards: Uphold confidentiality, privacy, and professional standards in an AI-integrated world.
Guide adoption: Help Australia avoid misuse, overuse, or misinformed adoption of AI tools.
Get involved: The 2025 'AI Clinical Idea Sprint'
We are inviting clinicians, researchers, and innovators to move from passive reliance to active creation. Join us for the 2025 AI Clinical Idea Sprint, a fast-paced creative contest where we test, break, and challenge AI tools in real time.
Partner with us
Funding this research means funding clarity and safety for Australia’s health future. We invite philanthropists and industry partners to support this work, ensuring that the expansion of AI in healthcare remains thoughtful, human-centred, and evidence-based.
