UTS Graduate School of Health offers a range of scholarships to support outstanding research students who are seeking to undertake a PhD.

The scholarships listed below are specific to the Graduate School of Health. At a broader university level, there may be additional scholarships open to all students regardless of their discipline.

Postgraduate research scholarships

Visit Scholarships and prizes for more details about the following scholarships, or to search all scholarships, prizes and awards offered by UTS. 

  • Australian Government Research Training Program Stipend (RTP)

    Funded by the Commonwealth Government Department of Education and Training, the Australian Government Research Training Program Stipends are open to highly ranked research students who demonstrate outstanding academic achievement and research potential. This scholarship is valued at $27,082 (2018 rate, indexed) per annum and is provided to assist with general living costs.

  • International Research Scholarship (IRS) (international students)
    These UTS funded fee waivers can be awarded in either Autumn or Spring semesters for any area of research offered by UTS Pharmacy. Please note that this scholarship type covers tuition fees only and does not include a stipend.
  • International Research Training Program Scholarship (IRTP)
    Funded by the Australian Government, Department of Education and Training, the International Research Training Program Scholarship (IRTP) is open to highly ranked, newly commencing Doctoral Research Degree (PhD) students who demonstrate outstanding academic achievement and research potential. The IRTP covers the tuition fees, the cost of a standard Overseas Student Health Cover (OSHC) for the scholarship holder, their spouse and dependants (if any), and a living stipend at the minimum Australian Government established indexed rate.
  • China Scholarship Council (CSC) & UTS PhD Scholarship (Chinese citizens and permanent residents)
    Students from the People's Republic of China who have received a CSC scholarship are eligible to apply for these UTS funded fee waivers. The fee waivers can be awarded for any area of research offered at UTS.
  • Vietnam International Education Development (VIED) & UTS PhD Scholarship (Vietnamese citizens)
    Students from Vietnam are eligible to apply for these collaborative scholarships which include tuition fees, living allowance as stipulated by the Australian Postgraguate Award (AU$27,082 – 2018 rate) and a return airfare to Sydney.

How to apply

Prospective research students who wish to apply for a scholarship should:

  • Make a formal enquiry about undertaking PhD in so we can help connect you to a supervisor and start your application process
  • Apply to UTS Graduate Research School with the research proposal you have developed with your supervisor and your scholarship award form (if applicable)
