Meet the Centre Director

Distinguished Professor Biswajeet Pradhan is an internationally established scientist in the field of Geospatial Information Systems (GIS), remote sensing and image processing, complex modelling/geo-computing, machine learning, and soft-computing applications, natural hazards and environmental modelling, and remote sensing of Earth observation.

Introducing Biswajeet Pradhan

Prof Pradhan is listed as the World’s Most Highly Cited Researcher by Clarivate Analytics Report for five consecutive years: 2016–2020, as one of the world’s most influential minds. In 2018–2020, he has been awarded as World Class Professor by the Ministry of Research, Technology and Higher Education, Indonesia. He is a recipient of the Alexander von Humboldt Research Fellowship from Germany. In 2011, he received his habilitation in “Remote Sensing” from Dresden University of Technology, Germany. Since February 2015, he has been serving as “Ambassador Scientist” for the Alexander Humboldt Foundation, Germany. He has been globally ranked 1 out of 58,100 researchers in the field of "Geological and Geomatics Engineering" during the calendar year 2021 as per the recently published ranking by Stanford University.

Professor Pradhan has received 55 awards since 2006 in recognition of his excellence in Research, Teaching and Service. He has published more than 550 articles, with the majority (500+) in science citation index (SCI/SCIE) technical journals with the total Citation (Google Scholar): 52,300, H-index: 115, i10-index: 571. He has written eight books and thirteen book chapters.

He has completed 23 research projects amounting to US$ 14 Million. He is a Member or Board Member of many international research professional bodies such as the Committee of Space Research (COSPAR), Senior Member of IEEE, United Nations Outer Space Research Programme (UNOOSA), and many more. He is a regular reviewer for many international scientific and research organisations like European Science Foundation, Dutch Research Council, Austrian Science Foundation, Research Council UK (RCUK), Swiss National Science Foundation, Belgian Remote Sensing Program, and others. 

He is the Associate Editor and Editorial Member in more than 10 ISI journals and reviewed and edited over 3000 articles. He has delivered 35 keynote and invited talks at international conferences.

He has supervised 49 PhD students, 10 Master by Research students, and 30 MSc students by coursework.

Prof. Pradhan has developed a strong research national network internationally with organizations and universities in Malaysia, India, South Korea, Germany, Norway, Saudi Arabia, the Netherlands, Vietnam, Turkey, Iran, Egypt, China, Japan, and Indonesia. He has widely travelled abroad, visiting more than 55 countries to present his research findings.
