The best new fiction, non-fiction and poetry from the emerging creative talent in the UTS Creative Writing program

Book cover: Savour the Dust

The fortieth edition of the UTS Writers’ Anthology, Savour the Dust, features the best new fiction, non-fiction and poetry from the emerging creative talent in the University of Technology Sydney's Creative Writing program.

The works within this collection are united by the feelings of discomfort that nostalgia can bring as we become adults and the parts of ourselves that we either lose or fight to keep as we grow, age and change. We cannot piece what we have lost back together but we can cherish what is left.

  • A mango tree takes revenge on the residents of a share house.
  • A pastor’s daughter falls in love with a new parishioner.
  • A young woman bears witness to destruction she cannot stop.

Savour the Dust showcases writing that forces us to reflect on our lives and savour the memories of our past. This collection celebrates resilience and the parts of the world we refuse to leave behind.

The subject matter in Savour the Dust may range from domestic portraiture to global polycrisis, yet all the works in this vital anthology are fundamentally united by the same animating energy, experimentation and risk-taking that are essential at the outset of a writer’s career.

Sarah Holland-Batt, from the foreword to Savour the Dust

Sarah Holland-Batt is an internationally acclaimed and award-winning poet, editor and critic whose work has been widely published in Australian and overseas literary journals. Savour the Dust is the result of hard work and commitment from the author contributors, the student-led editorial committee, UTS staff and the team at Broadcast Books.
