• Eligibility

  Matriculation is the name given to the minimum standard that an applicant must satisfy to be eligible for consideration to study a course. To be eligible to matriculate at UTS, an applicant must satisfy at least one of the following:

  • have attained a full NSW HSC or equivalent with an ATAR of 69 (excluding adjustment points), or
  • completion of a UTS Foundation Studies course, a recognised tertiary preparation course, associate diploma, AQF diploma or advanced diploma, or
  • completion of one year full-time or equivalent of tertiary studies from a single course within the same institution, or
  • be at least 20 years of age on 1 March for the year of intake (e.g. if you are applying to start your study at UTS in 2027, the date would be 1 March 2027).

  Your application will be considered for admission to UTS if you:

  • are eligible to matriculate
  • meet English language requirements
  • have an assessable qualification

  Some UTS courses also have:

  • compulsory selection criteria – which must be submitted on time for your application to be considered
  • optional selection criteria – which gives you an opportunity to improve your chances of selection to the course through the admissions schemes that we offer

  You may also be required to meet course-specific additional criteria, such as an interview, test or personal statement. Details on what additional criteria may apply can be found under the individual UTS course descriptions or courses with special requirements.

• Assumed knowledge and subject prerequisites

  UTS has no HSC subject prerequisites for our courses. However, each faculty identifies assumed knowledge and/or recommended studies. These criteria are designed to assist you in successfully completing your course and you’re advised to have achieved them before you begin the course.

  UTS also offers a range of science bridging courses for students who don't meet the assumed knowledge requirements for their preferred course. Most of these courses are offered in late January/early February, between enrolment and the start of session. Bridging courses in physics, chemistry and mathematics are available to all new students undertaking degree studies. Check out our bridging course page for more information. 

• Overseas qualification

  UTS considers applications that include equivalent overseas qualifications for admissions purposes. If you’re an Australian citizen or permanent resident applying with an overseas secondary qualification, visit the UAC website to learn more, and consider using their UAC Qualifications Assessment Service before you apply to study at UTS.

  English language proficiency 
  If you have secondary or tertiary qualifications from countries where English is not the standard language of instruction, you must provide evidence of English proficiency. 

  UTS recognises a number of English language tests as proof of English language proficiency. Different areas of study at the university recognise different tests, you can visit the UAC website for more information. Please note, no application for admission will be considered until English language proficiency has been demonstrated.

• International Baccalaureate (IB)

  UTS considers IB qualifications. When applying via UAC, your IB score will be converted to a UAC rank. UAC’s rank conversion table will help you identify how competitive you are for a UTS course.
