Research degrees in FASS
There are several types of research degrees at UTS , including Master’s by Research, Doctor of Philosophy (PhD), Industry Doctorate Programme, and Collaborative Research Degrees.
These courses are specific to the Faculty of Arts and Social Sciences (all courses are available to both domestic and international students):

For International Applicants only, our PhDs are available in distance mode, if your prospective supervisor and the faculty agree to supervise you in this mode, where you can stay in your own country and study with us. You may also be eligible for tuition-fee offset scholarship. All other application processes are the same as for all graduate research degrees. Scholarships for postgraduate research
The UTS Graduate Research School provides information about research scholarships available for local and international students applying to commence a Higher Degree by Research (HDR) degree.

Find a supervisor
You need written approval from two potential thesis supervisors (Principal Supervisor and Co-supervisor) before you can apply.
Other ways to find a potential supervisor
- Browse our Research Centres and Research Groups to find your research home and supervisor
- Search for supervisor by research topic (UTS-wide search)
Higher Degree Research applications in FASS will not be considered if, at the time the application is submitted, the applicant is already employed on a fixed-term or continuing staff contract in the same Discipline, Program or equivalent teaching unit as their prospective Principal Supervisor.
If you cannot find a supervisor, but your topic fits within our research centres, email your CV and a short research proposal to FASS.HDR@uts.edu.au
