HANOI, VIETNAM — Today, senior government representatives, industry leaders, researchers and innovators from Australia and Vietnam convened in Hanoi for the Australia-Vietnam Strategic Technologies Forum 2026, a flagship bilateral event dedicated to advancing collaboration in critical and emerging technologies under the theme “Strategic Technologies for Resilient Future.”
Hosted at the Posts and Telecommunications Institute of Technology (PTIT), the Forum builds upon the vision outlined by Australia’s Prime Minister and Vietnam’s General Secretary and President in their recent Joint Statement on the Enhancement of Science, Technology and Innovation Connectivity, which recognizes the Australia-Vietnam Strategic Technologies Centre as a landmark partnership to advance collaboration in critical and emerging technologies between the two countries. Co-founded by the University of Technology Sydney (UTS), PTIT and Nokia, and supported by the Australian and Vietnamese Governments, the Centre serves as a strategic platform for research collaboration, technology innovation, digital transformation and cybersecurity cooperation.
The Forum aims to accelerate bilateral cooperation in strategic technologies by fostering knowledge exchange, innovation and capacity building across government, industry and academia. It provides a unique opportunity to connect researchers, policymakers, technology leaders and students, while creating new pathways for collaborative research, industry engagement and workforce development in areas critical to both nations’ future prosperity and resilience.
The Forum demonstrates the growing strength of the Australia-Vietnam Comprehensive Strategic Partnership and highlights the important role that universities, industry and government play in building a resilient and innovation-driven future. We are very pleased to welcome leading experts and partners to Hanoi to explore new opportunities for collaboration and talent development.
Since its launch in June 2025, the Australia-Vietnam Strategic Technologies Centre has established itself as a leading hub for Australia-Vietnam technology collaboration. The Centre has been supporting more than a dozen Australia-Vietnam Strategic Technologies Seed Grants, developed multiple technology use cases, e.g., in AI safety, AI-powered sign language interpretation, quantum technology applications, digital twin-enabled education, awarded more than hundred AVST scholarships to students and engineers across Vietnam. The Centre also delivered strategic training programs for policymakers and senior government officials (in both Vietnam and Australia), supported emerging researchers and doctoral candidates, convened different capacity building activities involving leading experts and industry partners from Australia, Vietnam, North America, Europe, Japan and beyond. To support and promote female leadership in strategic technologies, AVSTC launched the Women in Technology and Innovation Awards, recognizing about 30 outstanding female scientists, leaders and excellent students in technologies across Vietnam.
Australia is committed to deepening cooperation with Vietnam across science, technology, cyber and innovation to help translate ambitions into tangible and practical outcomes. The Australia-Vietnam Strategic Technologies Centre (AVSTC) stands as a testament to our commitment and our enduring partnership. It plays an increasingly important role in advancing collaboration on critical and emerging technologies and in bringing together the expertise of government, industry and academia from both countries.
Highly valuing the role of the AVSTC in building a comprehensive cooperation ecosystem, Assoc. Prof. Dr. Tran Quang Anh, Vice President of PTIT, affirmed: “The 2026 Australia-Vietnam Strategic Technology Forum goes beyond academic discussions to offer valuable practical experiences through hands-on training and technology demonstrations, the cultivation of scientific talent, and particularly, the promotion of inclusive development values. The forum stands as a vivid testament to the Comprehensive Strategic Partnership between Vietnam and Australia. The event brings together transformative foundational and emerging technologies, including 5G/6G, Artificial Intelligence (AI), Cybersecurity, and Quantum Technology.”
Across the two days, the Forum's technical program will bring together internationally recognised experts to discuss future communications technologies, AI-enabled systems, robotics, cyber resilience, digital innovation and industry collaboration. Sessions include presentations on 5G/6G, real-time flood intelligence enabled by mobile technologies, human-centric artificial intelligence, autonomous robotic systems, advanced semiconductor technologies, quantum science. With the support by the Centre, AI and digital twin-enabled education platforms by industry partners like YooTek have been trialled for students at schools in Hanoi. Attendees also gain hands-on equipment training led by Nokia experts and explore live demonstrations of AI safety protocols, digital twin simulations, and robotics exhibitions. “By bringing together top scientists, industry leaders, and policymakers, AVSTC is turning advanced research into practical solutions. From hands-on industry training to PhD scholarships and research grants, we are equipping the next generation of researchers in Australia and Vietnam to tackle complex challenges in AI, cybersecurity, and digital inclusion”, said Professor Diep N. Nguyen, Director of the Australia-Vietnam Strategic Technologies Centre.
With a vision for global impact, the Centre researchers have also contributed to international discussions, conferences on responsible artificial intelligence, 5G/6G security and privacy protection through publications, technical reports, and tutorials. As noted by MOST Minister H.E. Mr. Vu Hai Quan during the high-level visit to Australia, led by Vietnam’s General Secretary and President H.E. Mr. To Lam, in August 2026, together with Australia’s and Vietnam’s scientists, industry innovators, AVSTC’s mission is to serve as a multi-faceted platform to foster the technology-empowered sustainable growth and collaboration with new impactful initiatives, e.g., joint research funding programs, supporting pre-start up and SMEs in developing/adopting strategic technologies.
