  UTS Bachelor of Nursing (BN) prepares you for the exciting and challenging role of the Registered Nurse. This course offers you a comprehensive range of theoretical and clinical nursing subjects that together provide the knowledge, skills and professional values graduates require to provide safe, effective and compassionate nursing care. You will be well prepared for clinical practice and highly sought after for employment in a wide range of healthcare settings across Australia and internationally.

  The course is three years full-time (or equivalent part-time), consisting of both theoretical and practical components. Clinical learning is a key element of the course and clinical placements in health care settings begin in the first session of your first year and will continue every session thereafter. Simulation-based learning opportunities are integral to the course and are designed to assist you in preparing for clinical placements and your future role as a Registered Nurse. In your final year of study you can choose a specialty elective, for example paediatrics, critical care, peri operative, or mental health nursing to align your education with future career aspirations.

  The Bachelor of International Studies (BIS) is designed to build your intercultural communication skills and language proficiency and equips you to become a global citizen who can operate successfully in diverse contexts, both in Australia and internationally. In the fourth year of the combined degree, you will spend an academic year studying in the local language at a university in the country of your chosen major. Together, the Bachelor of Nursing Bachelor of International Studies combines preparation for the role of Registered Nurse with immersion in another language and culture, enhancing your professional, educational and career options.

  Your Australian Tertiary Admission Rank (ATAR) is a score between 0.00 and 99.95. It shows you how you rank compared to all the students in your year group in New South Wales. A selection rank combines your ATAR with any other adjustment points that make up your overall university entrance score. Your selection rank may differ from university to university, depending on the adjustment points granted to you at each institution.

  Transdisciplinary Electives integrate knowledge from multiple disciplines, allowing you to approach complex problems from a range of perspectives.

  By combining methods and insights from various disciplines, transdisciplinary learning often leads to breakthrough ideas and creative innovations that may not be possible within the confines of a single discipline.

  If you find yourself rapt by the world of innovation – you can pair your core degree with a Diploma in Innovation, graduating with two qualifications in the same timeframe.

  Applicants must have completed an Australian Year 12 qualification, Australian Qualifications Framework Diploma, or equivalent Australian or overseas qualification at the required level.

  Admission to the combined degree is on merit according to the admissions policy for the Bachelor of Nursing (C10122).

  There is a range of entry levels to the various language and culture programs. Students are admitted to the international studies program with no guarantee of entry to a specific major, although every effort is made to meet students' preferences.

  Eligibility for admission does not guarantee offer of a place.

  Clinical Placements for Bachelor of Nursing Students at UTS

  To participate in clinical placements as part of the Bachelor of Nursing (BN) program at UTS, you must meet the NSW Ministry of Health verification requirements. This includes:

  • Criminal Clearances: Ensuring you have no criminal record that would prevent you from working in healthcare settings or with children.
  • Screenings and Vaccinations: Completing necessary health screenings and vaccinations to protect against infectious diseases.
