About the program
The Inbound KTP Visiting Fellow (KTP-VF) program provides support for researchers from UTS’s KTP partners to travel to Sydney to collaborate on projects of mutual interest with UTS academics. The Office of the Deputy Vice-Chancellor (Research) provides up to AUD$10,000 per KTP institution per year to support academic visits that are intended to further research collaboration. N.B. Applications for 2020 (Round 1) are now closed. Applications for 2020 (Round 2) will open on 1 March 2020.
The program’s objective is to provide opportunities for long-term research engagement between UTS and the KTPs.
Academics participating in the KTP Visiting Fellow program are expected to:
- Develop joint academic publications
- Identify opportunities for co-supervision of PhD students
- Apply for external research funding
- Broaden collaborative connections with other academics at UTS and the KTP
- Present at public seminars
- By the end of the visit, submit a 12–24 month plan of engagement and collaborative work; including details and timeline of joint publications, co-supervision of PhD students and grant applications in Australia and/or overseas
Duration of stay
Appointments are generally expected to be two to four weeks in duration. If funding is sought for a period shorter or longer than this, a clear explanation should be included with the proposed visit time.
Visiting fellows and UTS host academics are required to read and abide by the KTP Visiting Fellow Program Guidelines. This document contains important information about the Australian visa, human resources invitation letter, health insurance, travel expenses, airfares and accommodation for visiting fellows. It also includes a step by step checklist to guide visiting fellows and UTS host academics through the steps involved before, during and after the visit.

The KTP team and/or their host faculty will advise visiting fellows on where to find suitable accommodation during their stay at UTS. It is expected that visiting fellows will reside in the vicinity of Broadway or another area close to UTS during the fellowship period and will participate fully in the itinerary prepared by their host faculty and the KTP team.
Visiting fellows may find more information about accommodation, transport, money and banking, and safety in the Living in Sydney tips for KTP-VF (PDF, 363kB).
