Ten UTS academics have been named on a prestigious list of the world’s most influential researchers.

The Clarivate Highly Cited Researchers list identifies leading global researchers who have demonstrated their influence by publishing papers which rank in the top one percent by citations for their field.

Ten UTS researchers made the list across their fields of research in 2025:

Professor Igor Aharonovich – scientist working on quantum sources that can generate, encode and distribute quantum information (cross-field)

Emeritus Professor David Boud – leading scholar of adult, higher and professional education (social sciences)

Professor Oscar Xiaojun Chang – expert on artificial intelligence, computer vision, multimedia, neural networks and machine learning (cross-field)

Associate Professor Fang Jianguang – expert on computational mechanics and optimisation of structures and materials (engineering)

Professor J.C. Ji – interdisciplinary researcher into vibration, mechanical asset management, clean energy and vehicle systems (engineering)

Distinguished Professor Dayong Jin – global leader driving the transformation of photonics into diagnostic and imaging devices for disease detection (cross-field)

Adjunct Professor Bruce Bing-Jie Ni – expert in the field of environmental technology and wastewater treatment (environment and ecology)

Professor Roc Xunpeng Shi – researcher on environmental law and policy especially around clean energy and climate (cross-field)

Dr Bing Sun – researcher in materials science, electrochemistry, nanotechnology and solid-state physics (cross-field)

Distinguished Professor Guoxiu Wang – global leader in battery technologies, materials chemistry, electrochemistry and energy storage (materials science)

UTS Deputy Vice-Chancellor (Research), Professor Kate McGrath, congratulated the researchers for making the prestigious list and welcomed the recognition of research excellence at UTS.

“These ten academics represent a “who’s who” of outstanding researchers at the top of their fields globally, who are making significant contributions to advancing knowledge across their chosen disciplines,” she said.

“Their work is tackling global challenges in field such as clean energy, quantum materials, artificial intelligence and environmental science.”
