From transforming how we grow food to saving lives at the beach, the winners of the 2024 IBISWorld 3P Innovation & Entrepreneurship Program are proving that bold, purpose-driven ideas can use creativity to address real-world challenges. This competition invites students to develop an innovative product/ idea or service associated with the 3Ps (People, Planet, Profit).

Sunday Harvest: Farming, Reimagined

Design students Jordan Atkins and Robin Henstock took out joint first place with Sunday Harvest, a fully managed, on-site farming system that allows restaurants, cafés and offices to grow produce where it's needed, eliminating long supply chains and cutting food waste.

Sunday Harvest was driven by their interest in applying new technologies in unexpected ways, alongside their passion for sustainability and care for the planet.

“The 3P Competition gave us a huge amount of confidence in our idea and that we were going down the right path...The wide range of perspectives and experiences from the mentors was a lot to take in initially but proved to be invaluable for us.”

WRAPP Band: A Lifesaving Signal

Also awarded first place were engineering students Denin Klevansky and Jack Nilsen, for their work on the WRAPP Band, a waterproof wristband that sends real-time distress alerts directly to lifeguards when activated.

Drawing from Denin’s experience as a volunteer surf lifesaver, the device uses geo-fencing technology to connect wearers to the iPad at the Surf Life Saving Club when they enter the vicinity. Additionally, it can allow parents to track their children at the beach.

The team has used the funding to incorporate their company Beachware, purchasing the domain and creating a landing page. They next plan to invest in R&D to design and build a functional prototype, which will be pivotal in attracting future investors.

"In 2023/2024, 258 lives were tragically lost along Australia's coasts. We aim to support lifeguards in preventing further tragedies at Australian beaches.”

Third place was awarded to the creators of Oxi-Fe, for their idea to innovate the conventional pulse-oximeter. The new device will deliver multiple benefits: a more comfortable patient experience, a higher accuracy in oxygen readings and cost savings.
