Copyright Agency - UTS New Writer's Fellowship 2025 ($30k)

14 January 2025
Copyright Agency Writer-in-Residence Nardi Simpson

The Copyright Agency’s Cultural Fund in partnership with the UTS Creative Writing Program is pleased to announce that applications are open for the Copyright Agency-UTS New Writers’ Fellowship.

Australian writers are now invited to apply for this residency for 2025. It is well known that completing a second or third book is often difficult. This unique opportunity provides a writer with the financial security to complete a new work, to take creative risks, and to connect with Australia’s leading creative writing program.

To qualify as a 'new' writer, you will have published one or two book-length works of fiction, poetry, or non-fiction with a commercial publisher between 1 January 2010 and 31 January 2025. You are also required to have a contract or letter of interest from a publisher for your second or third book.

The writer-in-residence will be required to be available two (2) days a week, from March to November, and be available for consultation with Creative Writing students and participate in other activities relating to the Creative Writing Program. The selected writer will be provided with an office.

The successful writer will also be required to promote the position of Copyright Agency-UTS New Writer-in-Residence and the UTS Creative Writing program.

To apply, please provide:

  1. a written statement of no more than 2 pages on how the Copyright Agency-UTS New Writer's Residency will benefit your writing at this stage of your career and how your presence will contribute to a vibrant, diverse and innovative writing culture at UTS;
  2. a sample of no more than 5 pages from the project you will be working on;
  3. a CV (max 3 pages) and;
  4. confirmation of publisher interest.

Please address your application to Dr Delia Falconer (Delia.Falconer@uts.edu.au) by midnight, Friday 21 February 2025.
