The Faculty of Arts and Social Sciences is thrilled to announce a fully-funded domestic PhD scholarship at the University of Technology Sydney. This initiative spans 3.5 years, full-time, and offers a unique opportunity to delve into urban wetland research in Sydney, focusing on political ecologies of water. Applications close 28 June 2024.
Why Political Ecologies of Water?
Urban wetlands and their ecologies are interconnected with the urbanisation of Sydney. But these socioecological dynamics remain mostly unknown because, starting with settler colonialism, wetlands have been drained and channelled underground. This out-of-sight problem means that not enough people understand the processes that link urban life and urbanization with broader ecological and capital flows. Our project aims to change that by making these hidden wetlands visible through a multimodal knowledge platform. We're focusing on two areas of urban renewal, Green Square and Marrickville South.
Successful candidates will collaborate on groundbreaking research, contributing to the multimodal knowledge platform. You’ll have the opportunity to document and share key insights right from your first year.
