The 2024 edition of the subject rankings, released today by global higher education analyst QS Quacquarelli Symonds, provides independent comparative analysis on the performance of more than 16,400 individual university programs, taken by students at more than 1500 universities in 96 locations around the world, across 55 academic disciplines and five broad faculty areas.

The ranked UTS subjects, up from 27 in 2023, include 14 in the global top 100. They are:

  • Nursing – 24th
  • Library and Information Management – 31st
  • Data Science and Artificial Intelligence – 40th
  • Art and Design – equal 46th
  • Sports-related subjects – 47th
  • Architecture / Built Environment – 51-100 band
  • Communication and Media Studies – 51-100 band
  • Engineering, Civil and Structural – 51-100 band
  • Engineering, Mineral and Mining – 51-70 band
  • Law – equal 68th
  • Computer Science and Information Systems – 73rd
  • Engineering, Electrical and Electronic – equal 83rd
  • Accounting and Finance – equal 90th
  • Environmental Sciences – equal 96th

QS uses five key metrics to compile the subject rankings. Reputation indicators are based on the responses of more than 240,000 employers and academics to QS surveys while Citations per Paper and H-Index measure research impact and productivity. The International Research Network (IRN) is used to assess cross-border research collaboration.
