The UTS Vault was launched by the NSW Premier

19 October 2023

Dedicated to collaborative research and innovation in cybersecurity, data protection, and defence technology.

The UTS Vault is a first-of-its-kind secure collaborative research and innovation facility at the forefront of cybersecurity, data protection and defence technology.

The UTS Vault was opened by New South Wales (NSW) Premier, the Hon. Chris Minns MP, in the presence of government officials, industry partners and the university.

The facility is built to support cybersecurity and defence featuring state-of-the-art technology, for research and innovation, providing a secure environment for cutting-edge work. The NSW Government allocated $7.285 million to support the development and operation of the UTS Vault.

The UTS Vault is a valuable resource that is unique to New South Wales. It will strengthen our cybersecurity and defence technology capability while reducing national sovereign risk and growing the state’s cybersecurity talent pipeline

NSW Premier, the Hon. Chris Minns MP.

UTS Vault is also designed to meet the stringent compliance standards set by the Department of Defence, ensuring that it can support projects of national importance. With the provision of a collaboration hub space, private sector companies, academic institutions, and government entities can get together to discuss and advance research and commercialisation efforts in the field.

The facility contains secure connectivity that will allow users to connect to the highly secure Australian Defence Network, which is crucial for research and projects that require top-level security measures. Additionally, users can access other facilities at UTS, such as the Tech Lab, ProtoSpace, and Rapido which are research spaces that will advance technology innovation.

“The UTS Vault is a great example of the sort of enabling infrastructure a university can provide with the support and backing of the NSW Government. In the race for highly skilled Australian jobs in a diverse range of sectors – defence, cyber, and telecommunications to name just a few – a facility like the UTS Vault is an asset for NSW.

“UTS is delighted to deliver this critical infrastructure to the heart of Tech Central. Unlike similar facilities built by private companies, the UTS Vault will benefit a wide range of partners including startups, government departments and other universities,” said Professor Andrew Parfitt.

The UTS Vault represents a significant investment in the development of cybersecurity and defence technology capabilities aiming to reduce sovereign risk and foster innovation.

The UTS Vault is a first-of-its-kind secure collaborative research and innovation facility, allowing stakeholders to solve problems, innovate, test and develop cutting-edge technologies while safeguarding critical intellectual property.
