Faculty of Arts and Social Sciences academics, alumni and even students are showcasing work over the course of this huge week. Here's your rundown of everything FASS at the first-ever SXSW Sydney.

The first ever SXSW Sydney kicks off on Monday October 15, and we here in FASS are so excited to welcome this prestigious and exciting event to UTS. As education partner, there is a range of activities happening across the university, including a selection of free events and exhibits.

FASS Academics and Alumni represent

Congratulations to Dr Liz Giuffre, Deborah Szapiro and Dr Julia Scott-Stevenson on being selected as speakers in the official SXSW conference program with their sessions:

  • Juggling family and work/life balance in the music industry
  • It's 2050 and the robots are among us
  • The myth of the single user: how XR can help us embrace diverse minds and diverse bodies

We also have alumni representing us across the event, including:

  • Kodie Bedford
  • Brooke Boney
  • Dr Manisha Amin
  • Dr Bilquis Ghani
  • Amy Wang

These sessions are only accessible to anyone with a SXSW ticket, which are still available for purchase here.

UTS House is at the centre of SXSW Sydney, hosting a selection of panel discussions, workshops, networking events and talks from leading academics, industry professionals and experts. It is located in the UTS Business School (Building 8) at the heart of Tech Central.

Faculties are working together for UTS House and we've been joined with our creative colleagues in Design, Architecture and Building to deliver a day of insightful discussions on creativity on Wednesday October 18.

The panel discussion Screen 'Content': Sustaining Creativity, co-facilitated by MAP academics Professor Rachel Landers and Associate Professor Alex Munt runs from 2:30 to 3:30pm.

Most of the programs within UTS House are free, however priority access will be given to SXSW Sydney ticket holders for some events. Find the full program and links to register below.
