Dr. Rizoiu was honoured with the prestigious Excellence Award and was named Academic of the Year.

Dr. Marian-Andrei Rizoiu's groundbreaking work in countering the proliferation of misinformation and disinformation in the online realm, including state-sponsored information operations and digital propaganda, has received high recognition at the 2023 Australian Defence Industry Awards.  

Dr. Rizoiu, who leads the Behavioural Data Science Lab at UTS, articulated his core objective: "My primary goal is to unravel the dynamics of information dissemination online and decipher the factors that propel it into vitality. I develop cutting-edge tools for the examination of misinformation and disinformation, enabling us to detect its presence, predict its significance, and devise effective countermeasures."

Professor Peta Wyeth, Dean of the UTS Faculty of Engineering and IT, extended her heartfelt congratulations to Dr. Rizoiu on this momentous accomplishment, emphasizing, "These accolades acknowledge the substantial contributions of Marian-Andrei's research, as he collaboratively engages with Defense partners to confront the escalating complexity of misinformation detection."
