Today, Professor Nicholas Davis and Sophie Farthing discussed the key trends in corporate governance and the existing obligations that apply to organisations using AI today. This discussion took place following the launch of HTI’s The State of AI Governance in Australia report.
The human implications of corporate use of AI
Around two-thirds of Australian businesses report using or actively planning to use AI systems in their business operations. While there are a range of existing laws of general application pertain to the design, development and use of AI systems. Australia does not yet have AI-specific laws or regulations. Without proper governance, the rapid deployment of AI systems exposes organisations, employees, consumers and the broader community to severe harms and significant risks.
