Jie Lu receives Officer of the Order of Australia medal from NSW Governor General, Her Excellency the Honourable Margaret Beazley AC KC, 20th April 2023.

2023 Australia Day Honours and Awards Ceremony

[0:00] Please your Excellency, to be invested with the Insignia of an Officer of the Order of Australia within the General Division, Distinguished Professor Jie Lu.

[0:12] Distinguished Professor at the University of Technology Sydney’s Faculty of Engineering and Information Technology, Professor Lu is Research Excellence Associate Dean and Director of the Australian Artificial Intelligence Institute.

[0:25] She has received the Chancellor’s Research medal for Research Excellence and the Vice Chancellor’s Research Medal for Research and Teaching Integration.

[0:33] Professor Lu is an internationally renowned scientist in the area of computational intelligence, and has made fundamental and influential contributions, particularly in fuzzy transfer learning and transfer learning, concept drift, data driven decision support systems, and recommender systems.

[0:52] Her research has positive implications and significant impact on the research community, and for society and economics in general.

[1:02] Professor Lu is author of 6 books and over 500 research papers in international journals and conferences.

[1:10] She is editor-in-chief of the Journal of Knowledge Based Systems and also of the International Journal of Computational Intelligence Systems.

[1:19] And she was the series editor of the world scientific book series on intelligent information systems.

[1:25] She has been a keynote speaker and chair at numerous Australian and International conferences in this subject area.

[1:33] Fellow and Distinguished Lecturer of the Institute of Electrical and Electronic Engineers, Professor Lu is the founding Chair of the New South Wales Computational Intelligence Chapter.

[1:44] An Australian Laureate Fellow, and Fellow of the International Fuzzy Systems Association, Professor Lu has been named Australia’s ‘Most Innovative Engineer’.

[1:56] For Distinguished Service to Engineering and Computer Science, particularly through the research and development of artificial intelligence, Professor Lu (Applause)

AAII's Distinguished Professor Jie Lu AO has been presented with the Order of Australia medal by Her Excellency the Honourable Margaret Beazley AC KC, Governor of NSW, at the 2023 Australia Day Honours and Awards Ceremony hosted at Government House in Sydney on 20th April. The extensive impact of Jie Lu's research throughout Australia's society and economy was emphasised in the proceedings.

Jie Lu was one of 47 Australians appointed Officer of the Order of Australia on Australia Day 2023, for her “distinguished service to engineering and computer science, particularly through the research and development of artificial intelligence.”
