Celebrate Wear It Purple Day 2020!

22 August 2022

Wear it Purple Day 2022 is occurring on Friday 26 August. It's a day dedicated to showing LGBTIQA+ young people that they are seen and supported. Keen to get involved in Wear it Purple Day? Here are a few ways you can display your allyship on the day and beyond.

Show your support from home

  • Wear purple – it could be as simple as a pin or ribbon, or as extravagant as dressing in purple head-to-toe!

Make your support visible

  • Show your support by posting pics of yourself, your friends or your pets rocking purple accessories on socials. Don't forget to tag #WearItPurple and #UTSForAll.

Educate yourself

  • Hear from our UTS Queer Collective about what Wear It Purple Day means to them and why it’s so important.

  • Watch UTS alumna Maya Newell’s touching documentary Gayby Baby, free for staff and students to view through Kanopy.

Create change

  • Attend a 'Breaking the Binary' training session and go on to become a UTS Ally. Visit our 'Diversity and inclusion training' page for more information.

  • Sign The Darlington Statement – a joint consensus statement by Australian and Aotearoa/New Zealand intersex organisations and independent advocates setting out the priorities by the intersex human rights movement.

  • Support the organisations that support LGBTIQA+ youth by donating to Twenty10, the Forcibly Displaced People Network, or Wear It Purple.

Visit the Wear It Purple 'Resources' webpage to access materials, information, and guides to promote the day, as well as to learn about how you can better support the LGBTIQA+ community.
