As part of the reconstruction and redevelopment of the ANGAU Memorial Hospital., the Clinical Services Program (CSP) was developed by the WHO Collaboration Centre at UTS and Johnstaff International Development (JID) in tandem with the following partners: PNG National Department of Health (NDOH), DFAT, and the University of PNG (UPNG). The CSP involved the development of a scoping brief identifying a set of training requirements to streamline the implementation and functioning of the new ANGAU Hospital facilities. In order to upskill and prepare the staff for the new birthing suites and paediatrics services, WHO CC UTS assisted the midwifery educators in the delivery of the Essential Obstetric Care (EOC) and Emergency Obstetric Care (EmOC) programs developed by Reproductive Health Training Unit (RHTU). The EmOC and EOC programs commenced on the 15th of July, and concluded on the 13th of August at the ANGAU Memorial Hospital and the Port Moresby General Hospital.
These hands-on, skill based group learnings can strengthen team communication, confidence and most importantly resilience to continue to work diligently despite facing resource constraints, extreme clinical complexity and other challenges on a daily basis.

EmOC participants at ANGAU Hospital
The delivery of the EOC and EmOC training programs has been aided by four educational advisors at AGNAU Hospital and Port Moresby Hospital: Phoebe O'Carrigan, Jane Menke, Lisa Peberdy, and Heather Gulliver. From the 15th of July until the 13th of August, 20 EmOC trainings were conducted at ANGAU hospital by the midwifery educators, and 259 multidisciplinary health workers have participated. Educators at Port Moresby General Hospital provided EmOC and EOC to more than 60 participants, who have each individually attended 40 hours of training.
