On April 17, UTS Distinguished Professor of Public Communication, Jim Macnamara, will be inducted into the PR News Measurement Hall of Fame in the USA in recognition of his long-standing efforts in championing research for planning and evaluation of public relations.

The induction to the Measurement Hall of Fame is not the first honour Macnamara has received recently. In 2017 he was presented with the highest honour of the International Association for Measurement and Evaluation of Communication, The Don Bartholomew Award for outstanding service to the communications industry. He later won The Pathfinder Award, the highest academic honor awarded by the Institute for Public Relations in the US for his research into evaluation and his pioneering research into organisational listening.

Jim has an impressive track record of producing high quality and impactful research for government, industry and academia on an international level. He thoroughly deserves the accolades which reflect his hard work and dedication in the field.

Professor Mary Spongberg,
Dean of the Faculty of Arts and Social Sciences

Before joining the UTS Faculty of Arts & Social Sciences in 2007, Macnamara had a career in communication practice spanning journalism, public relations and media research, including founding and heading the Asia Pacific office of global media research company CARMA International.

Macnamara’s research outputs in the most recent 2011-2016 ERA round include 3 books, 2 book chapters and 28 academic journal articles. His books include ‘The 21st Century Media (R)evolution: Emergent Communication Practices’, ‘Organizational Listening: The Missing Link in Public Communication’ and ‘Evaluating Public Communication: New Models, Standards, and Best Practice’.

UTS recently recognised Macnamara’s achievements and successful career in public communication through his appointment as a Distinguished Professor. The appointment acknowledges eminence and ongoing excellence including his long-standing and ongoing commitment to producing high quality research on a global scale. It also recognises Macnamara’s highly regarded teaching practices in the areas of communication theory and practice, media studies, social media and political communication.

Jim is leading the development of a new Master of Strategic Communication and Executive Master’s degree in Strategic Communication for enrolment next year. More information will be available from September this year.

We congratulate Jim on both honours.
