Each year the Australian Optical Society (AOS) awards prizes to outstanding researchers who contribute to the field of optics. This year, UTS Chancellor’s Postdoctoral Research Fellow, Dr Igor Aharonovich from the Faculty of Science won the prestigious AOS Geoff Opat Early Career Researcher’s Prize for outstanding, innovative research in photonics and optics within a five year time span of PhD completion.
This national award is highly competitive with the criteria based on research quality, degree of independence shown in research and evidence of the applicant’s contribution to the field of optics.
All Australian Optical Society awards are judged by a committee appointed by the AOS Council and each winner is presented with their prize at the annual Australian and New Zealand Conference in Optics and Photonics (ANZCOP) held in Fremantle, Western Australia on the December 8th, 2013.
Dr Aharonovich said, “I am honoured to have been awarded this prize as it recognises that my research is significant and important and provides me with the means to share my knowledge and research findings with the community.”
Dr Igor Aharonovich will receive $1500 in prize money to attend the annual Australian and New Zealand Conference in Optics and Photonics (ANZCOP) where he will have the opportunity to present his research to fellow colleagues and receive his award at the prize giving ceremony.
