NSW Health Indigenous Genetic Counselling Scholarship

To increase the number of Aboriginal and/or Torres Strait Islander people working in Genetic Counselling. The Scholarship aims to support an Aboriginal and/or Torres Strait Islander person studying a Master of Genetic Counselling at UTS Graduate School of Health.

To be eligible for the Scholarship an applicant must meet all of the following criteria:

• Be of Australian Aboriginal and/or Torres Strait Islander descent and provide either:
  • a Confirmation of Aboriginality from a Local Aboriginal Land Council or other Aboriginal or Torres Strait Islander organisation; or
  • a UTS Statutory Declaration form accompanied by two written references from Aboriginal and/or Torres Strait Islander people from the applicant's community who can confirm their identity and are not an immediate family member; and
• Have received an offer or enrolled in the C04374 Master of Genetic Counselling course at UTS.
• All candidates must apply via the UTS online Scholarship application form to be eligible.
• All candidates must be available to attend an online interview if required.

Preference will be given to students residing in NSW or with a strong connection to Country in NSW. If there are no eligible applicants fulfiling this criteria the scholarship may be awarded to a student residing in another Australian state or territory.

*Interested scholarship applicants are still encouraged to apply if they are intending to apply or have applied for the C04374 Master of Genetic Counselling course. However, please be aware that the scholarship and admissions process are separate.

As demonstrated in the Scholarship application and interview, the applicant must demonstrate:

• Passion for improving the health and well-being of the NSW Indigenous population through genetic counselling
• Potential to become an effective and energetic agent for positive change in their genetic counselling career and for Aboriginal and Torres Strait Islander communities
• Likelihood that the receipt of the scholarship will increase the Recipient's ability to complete the UTS Master of Genetic Counselling degree at a higher level of performance than would otherwise be the case
