Overview
The Dame Mary Gilmore Memorial Prize in Journalism aims to reward outstanding academic performance to a female student in an undergraduate or postgraduate Journalism degree at UTS.
Who is eligible
- Must be enrolled in an undergraduate or postgraduate Journalism degree at UTS.
- Has completed at least 72 credit points within the undergraduate degree or 48 credit points of the postgraduate course at the time of award (equivalent to two-thirds of the course).
- Be a female student.
Selection process
The student will be selected based on their academic performance in the degree using the following criteria:
- Has completed at least 72 credit points within the undergraduate degree or 48 credit points of the postgraduate course at the time of award (equivalent to two-thirds of the course).
- Has achieved the highest Weighted Average Mark in the degree at the time of award
- If there are two eligible students with the same WAM, the prize will be awarded to the student with the highest GPA. In the event that this is also identical, the final year of study WAM will be used as the deciding factor.
- Previous recipients are ineligible for the Prize
- The endorsed Recipient will then be formally approved by the Dean, Faculty of Design and Society (or nominee) based upon the selection criteria in clauses 5 and 4.
Other information
The successful recipient will be confirmed by the Head of Journalism and presented to the Sydney Lyceum Club who will invite them to speak at the Dame Mary Gilmore event.
One (1) recipient will be awarded the Prize each academic year.
