Overview
The Scholarship aims to support undergraduate students experiencing educational barriers and/or financial hardship, who are looking to enter the building or construction industries. The award is established to promote equity and ensure that regardless of circumstance, students are supported to pursue higher education.
Who is eligible
To be eligible for the Scholarship an applicant must:
- Be an Australian or New Zealand citizen, or the holder of an Australian permanent resident visa or permanent humanitarian visa; or the holder of a Temporary Protection Visa1; and
- Be commencing in one of the following UTS undergraduate programs:
- Bachelor of Engineering (Honours), or Bachelor of Engineering (Honours) Diploma in Industry Practice or combined Engineering (Honours) courses majoring in Civil Engineering; or
- Bachelor of Architecture; or
- Bachelor of Construction Project Management
- Demonstrate financial disadvantage either by:
- Applying through the Universities Admissions Centre (UAC) for an Equity Scholarship and by receiving a means-tested Commonwealth income support payment (such as Parenting Payment Single, Disability Support Pension, Carer Allowance, Austudy, ABSTUDY, Youth Allowance), or by providing comprehensive information demonstrating exceptional financial hardship; OR
- by making an appointment for an alternative financial assessment with the UTS Financial Assistance Service in the Student Services. This option is only available to applicants who have been deemed ineligible based on UAC’s financial hardship criteria or who have been unable to submit an Equity Scholarship application.

Selection process
As demonstrated in the Scholarship application and interview:
- Likelihood that the Scholarship will increase the ability of the Recipient to complete their UTS course at a higher level of performance than would otherwise be the case;
- Motivation and commitment to succeed in their UTS degree program;
- Financial need, as demonstrated by the UAC Equity Scholarship application.
In addition to financial need, preference will also be given to students who are able to demonstrate one or more other educational barriers or applicant attributes as assessed by the UAC Equity Scholarship, including:

- Geographical Disadvantage
- Sole parent responsibilities
- Carer responsibilities
- Long-term medical condition, disability, or ongoing effects of abuse
- Aboriginal and/or Torres Strait Islander
- Refugee status
