The Scholarship will provide a stipend allowance worth A$41,753 per annum (2025 rate) pro rata for up to 4 years, subject to satisfactory academic performance. Recipients will also participate in industry-based placements with the industry partners related to the student’s area of research, along with a professional development program. The Scholarship cannot be transferred to another area of research or another institution.

Become a Future Leader in Quantum Computing – Industry-ready PhD Scholarships. Transform your research into real-world impact with a PhD program co-designed with leading quantum experts and industry partners. These Scholarships are funded by the Australian Research Council (ARC) Training Centre for Future Leaders in Quantum Computing (FLiQC), in partnership with Sydney Quantum Academy (SQA).
Who is eligible?
- Scholarships are open to domestic and international students.
- Applicants are expected to apply for or be enrolled in a full-time PhD program at one of the participating FLiQC partner universities: the University of Sydney, UNSW, University of Technology Sydney, Macquarie University, and University of Western Australia.
- Applicants must undertake research supervised by one of the Chief Investigators of FLiQC in their research in one of the Centre's project areas of devices, architectures, and algorithms for quantum computing.
- Applicant must hold an undergraduate degree in a relevant discipline. This may include, but is not limited to, fields such as science, mathematics, computer science, physics, electrical engineering, chemistry, material science or other areas as deemed appropriate by the selection committee.
- Applicants must not be engaged in full-time employment or be subject to an obligation with another party to provide that party with any intellectual property rights over the course of their research studies and scholarship tenure.
- The recipient of this Scholarship must complete the Student Deed Poll supplied by the University at which they are or will be enrolled.
- Recipients cannot receive another Commonwealth supported award while receiving this Scholarship.
- It is a condition of accepting this Scholarship that recipients agree to undertake a substantive engagement with our industry partners as a core component of the PhD.
- Applicants must also meet requirements specific to the University in which the student is enrolled.
Selection process
This Scholarship is designed to support several outstanding PhD scholars who are highly motivated to drive groundbreaking advancements in quantum computing. It will be awarded to students with exceptional research potential to undertake research at one of FLiQC partner universities. Applications will be assessed by researchers and academics from FLiQC through a competitive assessment process, based on the following criteria:

Curriculum vitae
Copy of scholarly publication(s) in either peer-reviewed national or international journals (for Honours degree applicants)
Non-peer review publications
For the FLiQC Scholarship, there are specific supervisor projects connected to the scheme. To be considered for this scholarship, you will need to have a project that will engage with the relevant supervisor’s project.
