Overview

The Faculty Women in Engineering and IT Scholarship has been established by UTS Faculty of Engineering and IT with the goal of increasing the participation of women in Engineering and IT as a non-traditional area of study. The Scholarship will provide financial assistance for the first year of study in their chosen Engineering or IT degree.

Who is eligible?

To be eligible for this scholarship you must be: 

  • Be Female identifying;
  • Be an Australian citizen, or New Zealand citizen or the holder of an Australian Permanent Resident visa or Permanent Humanitarian visa; 
  • Be a current or non-current school leaver with an ATAR (or equivalent) of 85 or above (excluding adjustment points); the Faculty may consider applicants whose ATAR falls in the range of 75 to 85 depending on their suitability for the Scholarship.
  • Be commencing their first year of study in an undergraduate degree in the Faculty of Engineering and IT including double degrees; 
  • All candidates must apply using the online UTS Scholarships Application form;
  • All candidates must be available to attend an interview in person (online or face-to-face); and 
  • All candidates must complete all required steps in the selection process to be eligible (including but not limited to pre-offer information questionnaire). 
  • Applicants who wish to evidence the preferential criteria will be assessed under the UAC Equity Scholarship or Educational Access Scheme via UAC, and therein demonstrated financial disadvantage and/or other educational disadvantages (at the time of Scholarship selection).

Selection process

  • Academic merit.
  • As demonstrated in the Scholarship application and interview:
    o    Interest in Engineering or IT and motivation to succeed in the UTS course;
    o    Initiative in extra-curricular and non-academic activities;
    o    Motivation for women in engineering and IT;
    o    Other suitability criteria for the scholarship program identified by the Selection Committee, including but not limited to commitment, professionalism and engagement.
  • Preference may be given to students who can demonstrate the below criteria, and financial disadvantage and/or other educational disadvantages (through the UAC Equity Scholarship or Educational Access Scheme application). This may include: 
    o    Financial Hardship
    o    Exceptional Financial Hardship
    o    Regional or remote background
    o    Sole parent responsibilities
    o    Carer responsibilities
    o    Long-term medical condition / disability or ongoing effects of abuse
    o    Indigenous Australian
    o    Refugee status.
