National Science Week is Australia’s annual celebration of science and technology. Proudly partnering with the Australian Museum and the Botanic Gardens of Sydney, join UTS in the exploration of the wonders of science and discovery. 

What's on at UTS National Science Week

Mark your calendars and join UTS in a mix of in-person events, excursions and expos from 9 to 17 August.

Explore, discuss, and experience the wide world of science through the study of the natural world, climate change investigation, and learn from First Nations peoples about the Australian environment.

School Excursions

11 - 15 August 2025

Presented in partnership with the Australian Museum and Botanic Gardens of Sydney, celebrate National Science Week in August at Sydney Science Trail. Discover the important role science plays in our lives through a jam-packed program of engaging hands-on science excursions for primary and secondary students in Stages 2-6. Book your class today!

Time: 9.30am – 2.30pm

Location: Offered at both the Australian Museum and Botanic Gardens of Sydney 

Science for all: Citizen Science

Citizen science projects are often based on opportunistic collection of data or evidence from members of the community, but the contribution to science that these initiatives have can be exponential.

Speakers include Grace Gillard, FrogID Technical Officer - Research, Terrestrial Vertebrates, Australian Museum; Dr Cathy Offord, Head of Australian PlantBank Research, Botanic Gardens of Sydney; and Professor David Booth, School of Life Sciences, University of Technology Sydney.

Decoding the data nature provides

Data analysis and interpretation supports our scientific understanding of the natural world. Scientists use data to identify patterns, develop forecasts and create solutions to the threats and challenges we face in our ever-changing world.

Science Expo at the Australian Museum

The Expo is a fantastic opportunity for schools to engage with scientists – come along to the UTS stall and ask those burning questions you have and try your hand at some awesome hands-on activities and experiments. 

Primary students: Monday 11 – Tuesday 12 August

‘Who did it’ Forensic Science Workshop

UTS Science is excited to be delivering our popular ‘Who did it’ Forensic science workshops as part of the Schools program:

Explore what it’s like to be a forensic investigator and use scientific applications to solve crimes. Students will participate in a mock case scenario and learn how to dust and collect fingerprints, analyse bloodstain spatter and manage a crime scene, with the aim of the aim of identifying trace elements.
