Asking for help when you encounter difficult concepts is an effective way to expand your knowledge, even if you seek assistance from AI tools.

To engage with AI tools effectively:

  • Ask clear questions: You'll receive specific answers when your questions are clear and concise.
  • Include any information you think is relevant, such as asking for explanations in a way you can understand and requesting examples.
  • Be prepared to verify outputs and cross-check with reliable sources to ensure the accuracy of the information provided.

Example prompt: I want to understand quantum physics. Can you explain it in a way that someone without a physics background can understand, and provide some examples to illustrate the concepts?

Quantum physics can seem quite complex, but I'll break it down into simpler terms.

What is Quantum Physics?

Quantum physics is the branch of science that deals with the behavior of very small particles, like atoms and subatomic particles (electrons, protons, etc.). Unlike classical physics, which deals with larger objects and their predictable behaviors, quantum physics explores the strange and often non-intuitive ways that tiny particles behave.

Key Concepts in Quantum Physics

  1. Wave-Particle Duality:
    • Particles like electrons can behave both as particles and as waves. This means they can travel through space like a wave but also collide with other particles like a tiny ball.

Before accepting the AI tools’ explanation, ask yourself:

  • Can I trust the answer? Where did the data for the explanation come from? 
  • What do the AI companies gain from providing this service to me? 
  • Am I hindering my learning by relying too much on technology? 

How to verify outputs? 

Here are some examples of how you can verify the outputs.

  • Examine the outputs for logical progression. Determine the main point and assess if it makes sense as a whole. Check any contradictions within the outputs.
  • Research information from reputable sources, such as academic papers or trusted websites. You can check the library website for guidance on how to conduct research effectively.  
  • Seek input from experts or professionals who have expertise in the field or concept. Asking questions can help you gain valuable insights.

Remember that you engage with AI tools to enhance your learning, not to hinder it by relying solely on their outputs. To benefit, make sure to verify the provided information and use multiple sources to expand your knowledge and improve your independent learning skills.
