As a Bachelor of Arts in International Studies student, you’ll select a major that gives you specialised knowledge of your chosen country, culture or region of the world. You’ll study language, culture and contemporary society subjects, and spend an academic year (two sessions) at a university in your country of specialisation.
List of majors
There are 14 majors to choose from:
The UTS Handbook provides information about each major and study program for your particular degree. It also provides information on each destination country and the partner universities.
Choosing a major
There are several steps involved in choosing your country major. Use the table below to see what you need to do.
The School of International Studies will email all first year students in May to ask them to nominate their preferred country major. The selection process for majors occurs in June. International Studies will then allocate students to places in each major. Individual preferences are taken into account as much as possible. For those countries where demand is greater than the number of places available, major allocation will be determined by a ballot process. International Studies cannot guarantee that students will be accepted into their first choice of Major.
