Amanda White OAM (Business) (levels D, E)

How can UTS ensure assessment validly measures student learning, support quality teaching and assessment, and uphold confidence that graduates have earned their credentials and met intended learning outcomes? These are the practical, evidence-informed questions I would continue to bring to TLC.

My name is Amanda White and I’m an education-focused academic from Business committed to student experience, assessment quality and academic integrity. I bring a practical perspective on how policy decisions affect staff workload, student experience and assurance of learning. During my current term on TLC, I have contributed to work on assignment automatic extensions, ProctorU exam support, misconduct policy and procedure, and UTS approaches to mandatory attendance and class participation. If re-elected, I will advocate for clearer, fairer and more sustainable systems, including a shift away from ProctorU exams because of their adverse impact on workload and staff and student mental health. I would be grateful for your support. 

Emma Wong (ODVC (Academic)) (levels D, E)

Associate Professor Emma Wong is Academic Director, Global and Digital Education in the Office of the Deputy Vice-Chancellor (Academic), where she provides academic leadership and oversight of UTS’s expanding global and digital education portfolio. Working collaboratively across the University, she brings extensive experience in academic governance, having served on boards and committees in both public and private higher education institutions, including the University of Tasmania. Her research in higher education policy has given her a strong understanding of the opportunities and challenges facing the Australian university sector. Prior to joining UTS, Emma worked internationally across the UK, Germany, Hong Kong and mainland China, developing a broad perspective on teaching, learning and student success. She is committed to contributing this diverse experience to the Teaching and Learning Committee. Emma holds a PhD in Marketing and Tourism Management from UNSW and a Master of Tertiary Education Management from the University of Melbourne. 

Julian Broseus (Science) (levels A, B, C)

Teaching quality, student experience, and continuous improvement are areas I am passionate about, and I would welcome the opportunity to contribute to the Teaching and Learning Committee.

Since joining UTS, I have been actively involved in subject redesign, assessment innovation, curriculum development, and the integration of industry-relevant and technology-supported learning experiences. My teaching philosophy is grounded in evidence-based practice and the development of critical thinking and professional capabilities that prepare students for rapidly evolving disciplines.

Through my experience in higher education, research, and industry, I have developed a strong understanding of the opportunities and challenges associated with student engagement, learning technologies, assessment design, and academic integrity. Prior to joining UTS, I led multidisciplinary teams and organisation-wide initiatives focused on capability development and data-driven decision-making.

I would bring a collaborative, analytical, and student-centred perspective to the Committee, with a strong interest in educational quality and innovation. 

Daniel Demant (Health) (levels D, E)

I am an A/Professor in Public Health with extensive experience in teaching, curriculum development and educational leadership. Since I started my position at UTS in 2018, I have coordinated undergraduate and postgraduate programs, contributed to T&L committees, and led major curriculum development and accreditation activities.

It is my understanding that education is fundamentally connected to social justice, equity and the student experience. UTS needs to create environments in which students can succeed, while recognising that high-quality education depends on us staff having the time, resources and institutional support to do our jobs well.

I want to contribute a strong staff and student-focused perspective to decision-making at UTS. In particular, I will advocate for transparent and meaningful consultation, realistic expectations, and processes and decisions that properly consider staff workloads and their actual, practical impact on teaching and learning on the ground.

Participants in elections (candidates, their representatives and voters) are expected to follow the same high standard of conduct and behaviour during the campaign process as is expected on campus generally.
