This is the schedule for the election to fill student positions on Academic Board.

The schedule specifies the term of office, electorate, dates for nominations and ballot, Returning Officer and election rules. It also includes the nomination form that should be used to nominate as a candidate in this election, and information about Academic Board.

Electorate

Students from faculties

Any student enrolled in a postgraduate or undergraduate course (listed in the UTS register of award courses, with a minimum one year full-time or equivalent duration) can stand as a candidate, nominate candidates and vote for candidates within their faculty (Rule G3-22(1)(d)).

Restrictions

Students undertaking a double degree are only eligible to stand as a candidate, nominate candidates or vote for candidates within their home faculty (except for TD School students, see TD School Board schedule for more information).
Postgraduate research student

Any student enrolled in a postgraduate research course (listed in the UTS register of award courses, with a minimum one year full-time or equivalent duration) can stand as a candidate, nominate candidates and vote for candidates within the postgraduate research student body (Rule G3-22(1)(g)).
Indigenous student

Any Indigenous student enrolled in a postgraduate or undergraduate course (listed in the UTS register of award courses, with a minimum one year full-time or equivalent duration) can stand as a candidate, nominate candidates and vote for candidates within the UTS Indigenous student body (Rule G3-22(1)(h)).

Restrictions  

Students (undergraduate, postgraduate coursework and postgraduate research students) who are also members of academic or professional staff of the university (continuing or fixed-term) are not entitled to stand as candidates, nominate candidates or vote in this election (Rule G3-22(2)).

A ballot is required if more valid nominations are received than positions vacant. Ballots will take place in UTS: Elections Online Polling Booth.

The names of candidates and candidate statements will be made available at Voting before the ballot opens.

Conduct

Participants in elections (candidates, their representatives and voters) are expected to follow the same high standard of conduct and behaviour during the campaign process as is expected on campus generally. The behaviour of election candidates and their representatives should meet expected standards of conduct. See Code of Conduct for UTS Elections.

Results

The results of these elections will be made available at Results around 2 weeks after close of voting, following the declaration of poll by the Returning Officer (Rule G3-36(3) and (4)).

Academic Board induction

UTS has introduced an extended approach to induction to support incoming student members elected to Academic Board. This means that if you are elected as a 2027 student member of Academic Board, you will be able to start attending Academic Board meetings as an observer from the time you are elected. Your formal term will still commence from 1 January 2027.

The first Academic Board meeting that successful student members elected for 2027 will be able to attend will be held on Wednesday 11 November 2026. The Academic Board Committee Officer will contact successful candidates with further information.
