Biologics Innovation Facility

The Biologics Innovation Facility (BIF) is a simulated GMP environment facility capable of manufacturing products from research scale to pilot scale. BIF offers cost-effective solutions tailored to each project, particularly suitable for proof of concept studies, pre- to early- clinical trials, and for general research in diagnostics and therapeutic applications.

Types of products that can be made in the facility:

  • Antibodies and recombinant proteins
  • RNA technologies
  • Viral vector products
  • Cell and gene therapy products
  • Cellular agriculture
  • Extracellular vesicles e.g. exosomes

Successful projects complete at the BIF include process development activities, lab-scale optimisation and screening, large-scale product, cryo banks and process tech-transfer.

Process development: Scalable, cost-effective, and reproducible

The Biologics Innovation Facility (BIF) provides process development services aimed at offering the local biotechnology industry and academia a platform for scalable, cost-effective, and reproducible process development.

Upstream processing

Upstream processing involves the cultivation of cells which have been engineered to express a product of interest. This includes viral vector therapies, cell therapies, antibodies and more.

The facility includes single-use bioreactors for easily scalable biomanufacturing production. The facility contains the following equipment:

Ambr 250 Modular Bioreactor (2 modules)

Eppendorf BioFlo 320

Cytiva XDR 10

The flexible design of the facility allows for ease of product harvest and transportation between equipment.

Downstream processing

Downstream processing involves the recovery, purification, and concentration of the desired biomanufacturing product from cells. This includes alternative proteins, mRNA vaccines, viral vectors and more.

BIF is able to provide multi-step purification and concentration strategies to suit your project needs. The facility includes dedicated single-use protein recovery, purification, and concentration equipment, including:

ÄKTA flux 6 Small Scale tangential flow filtration systems

ÄKTA Pure 25

Manufacturing: from milligram to gram quantities

The Biologics Innovation Facility (BIF) is a simulated GMP environment facility capable of manufacturing a range of products from milligram to gram quantities through tailored bioprocess production services, customised to your project.

Scale up expression of proteins is achieved using shake flasks and bioreactors. The facility houses single-use equipment dedicated to liquid handling and monitoring. These can be customised to your project for media preparations, buffer preparations, and product holding steps. The BIF is capable of manufacturing a range of products from viral vector therapies and mRNA vaccines to lab-grown meat and alternative proteins

Our manufacturing equipment include:
