Prominent part of UTS for over twenty years

Research in the School of Human Performance, Rehabilitation and Population Health focuses on improving health, wellbeing and functional outcomes across diverse communities. It brings together expertise in sport and exercise science, physiotherapy, public health and indigenous health to tackle complex challenges that limit health, participation and performance.

Researchers develop evidence-informed interventions and digital health solutions to promote active lifestyles and optimise rehabilitation pathways. Strong partnerships with industry, healthcare providers and communities ensure translation into real-world impact.

The School supports collaborative, interdisciplinary research that informs practice and policy, contributing to healthier populations and more sustainable healthcare systems. We are committed to high-quality research, with strong methodological rigour underpinning all our work.

Our disciplines

Sport and Exercise Science

Sport and exercise science applies scientific principles and interdisciplinary knowledge to understand and optimise human performance across health and high-performance sport contexts.

Clinical Exercise Physiology

Clinical Exercise Physiology is an allied health discipline that uses evidence-based and individualised exercise interventions and behaviour change strategies to prevent, manage, treat, and overcome sub-acute and chronic physical and mental health conditions and diseases across the lifespan.

Physiotherapy

Physiotherapy focuses on movement, function and participation across the lifespan. The discipline draws on evidence-informed assessment, diagnosis, rehabilitation, prevention and health promotion to support people to recover from injury, manage health conditions, improve physical performance and participate fully in daily life.

Public Health

Public Health improves and protects the health of populations through the collective efforts of communities, organisations, and health, legal and government systems. At UTS, the discipline of Public Health delivers high-quality teaching and collaborative research to address real-world challenges and contribute to better health outcomes.

Indigenous Health

The Indigenous Health discipline celebrates and advances the strengths, knowledges and leadership of Aboriginal and Torres Strait Islander peoples through excellence in Indigenous education, research and engagement.
