Student service fees

Most universities levy service fees of some kind on their students, whereby all students share in supporting the range of non-tuition services and facilities provided by the university. UTS has compulsory charges, i.e. student service fees, which contribute towards the provision of services and facilities for students studying at UTS.

The UTS compulsory student service fees are made up of:

  • UTS Union Fee
  • Students' Association Fee
  • Students' Accommodation Levy
  • Students' Identification Card Charge1.

Footnote:
1. This charge does not apply to students enrolled on a HECS-liable basis.

Service fee exemptions

Payment of student service fees is compulsory except in certain circumstances. Students may not be required to pay all or part of one or more of the student service fee components if they meet certain criteria.

Note: To apply for an exemption, students must complete an Application for Service Fees Exemption form before the HECS Census date. This form is available from the UTS Student Info & Admin Centre at City and Kuring-gai campuses.

More information regarding these service fees and related exemptions is available online at:

www.sau.uts.edu.au/fees/service_fees.html

Course fees

Full-fee-paying courses are not offered to local students undertaking undergraduate courses at UTS. Students are however, liable for HECS charges (see following). Many postgraduate courses attract a course fee. These course fees are calculated on a course-by-course basis and are charged in addition to the student service fees outlined above. Contact the relevant faculty for full details.

Details of course fees are outlined under each course entry in this handbook on a fee per credit point basis. Readers should note that fees quoted throughout the handbook are correct at the time of publication, however they are subject to change and should be confirmed with the UTS Student Info & Admin Centre.

Course fees for international students

At the time of publication, course fees for undergraduate international students range from A$6,900 to A$9,350 per semester, and for postgraduate international students from A$3,450 to A$11,550 per semester. These may vary from time to time and the International Office should be contacted for up-to-date information.

International students in Australia on a student visa are required to undertake full-time study as a condition of their visa.

For more information contact the International Office, or visit the website:

Other costs

Students may incur other costs while they study at UTS. These may include books, printed sets of reading materials, photocopying, equipment hire, the purchase of computer software and hardware, and Internet services.

Some elective subjects may incur an additional cost where travel away from the University is involved.
