I have a diverse background, mainly in science education. After my studies at UTS, I initially worked as an analytical chemist before training as a secondary Science teacher. During my 18 years of teaching I completed a Masters in Science Education, followed by a Doctorate in Science Education.
I have extensive experience academica nd technical writing and in the development of educational materials, including assessment tools and teaching resources. I have had several secondary schol textbooks published.
I ran my own retail business for five years, which specialised in sustainable, ethical and fair-trade products.
Since 2015 I have worked in the tertiary education sector, coordinating subjects at UTS and UTS Insearch.

Environmental literacy is a complex concept to define and measure, encompassing far more than scientific knowledge about environmental issues, but also attitudes, values and actions towards sustainable practices.This study critically examined the NSW Science syllabus content relating to environmental issues, and evaluated the success of teachers implementing this content and the Environmental education policy by assessing the environmental literacy of students using the Australian Environmental Literacy Quotient, a measuring instrument developed by the author.
