Trevor Seymour-Jones specialises in advising all tiers of government in connecting the management of assets, as strategic organisational resources, with whole-of-government policies and objectives, the provision of public services, and the long-term sustainability of communities. He is particularly interested in how the asset base can contribute to balancing community and cultural needs with the drivers of urban innovation.
Trevor's professional background is the management of property assets. He is a Fellow of the Royal Institution of Chartered Surveyors, and holds a Bachelor of Science degree in Land Administration.
He advises governments throughout Australia (particularly local government) and Asia Pacific, including Hong Kong, Malaysia, Indonesia, and the Philippines where he was lead adviser in establishing the administrative arrangements for Bonifacio Global City. He has recently (2018/19) providied specialist advice to The World Bank on the design of a National Asset Register for the Government of the Philippines. His appointment by The World Bank has been extended to provide strategic guidance on the policy around the financial management of public assets in the Philippines, and to support the strategic planning of the Philippine Government.
In Australia, Trevor has advised the New South Wales Government on reforming the management of the state’s property portfolio, and the formation of the State Property Authority. He served on the Authority’s Advisory Board. He provided reform policy advice to the Departments of Treasury and Finance at the Governments of Western Australia and South Australia. He advises extensively to the local government sector, and served on the Western Australia Government’s advisory panel for building capacity and capability in local government.
Trevor gained his PhD at the University of Sydney in the management of government property assets, and the implementation of leading practice in the context of public sector reform. As an Associate at UTS, Trevor undertakes research into public sector integrated planning and reporting frameworks; participates in teaching and training programmes; and provides advisory services through the University’s consultancy arm.
In his earlier career, Trevor was responsible for the management of a 25 million square metre property portfolio across Asia Pacific, comprising some of the region’s most iconic properties. He also led corporate real estate teams in Asia for HSBC, Bank of America, and Standard Chartered Bank.
