This paper reflects upon aspects of my experience as an
artist moving into research and my attempts to reconcile
the two areas of activity and interest. It describes several
tabletop augmented reality music systems in the context
of my experience as an artist working in technology
research environments. It is my intention to show how the
relationship between creative practice and technological
research has changed for me over time and how I have
come to embrace a practice-based approach to research
where creative practice takes a central and crucial role
